  1. I think individual players softness probably gets overstated relative to team style of play. Panarin wasn't known to be soft before he got here. Kreids, Kakko, Trochek...these are not guys whose very makeup seems to be soft - maybe they've been showcased in a 'soft' system/culture. Zib is just a world class player - you don't dictate too much to a guy at his level - just unlock his natural genius. Whenever there gets to be this reputation that most players on a team fit a certain mold, i ask the question - how did that happen? Like - what are the chances the NYR just happen to miss on a consensus 1OA and 2OA? What are the chances the NYR just happen to sign, extend, trade for all these 'soft' players? Seems more easily explainable by the system.
  2. Adding a gritty player or two won't turn the tide on overall toughness if it doesn't get built in to the overall team's culture and style of play.
  3. Obviously can't really fault the Rangers for going with the #1 consensus pick at the time - theyd've been 'laffed' out the building had they picked stutzle #1. But it is worth exploring what they could've got in a trade down, and whether teams should be more open to trading out of the top pick in general.
  4. What makes no sense is...he was never signed to be a fourth liner, is clearly an asset as a third liner, and can even give you something unique in a middle 6 role...and in the above roles the cap hit is fair...so why get rid of him?
  5. Vegas with 2 cup appearances and 1 win within its first 6 or so years? And not a single 30+ goal scorer this season. Whats the secret?
  6. He cant get much better than hes been...and we still havent been a contender - and thats with him taking up only modest cap space. So unless a change in coaching style makes a huge difference and were able to contend while leaning on him heavily - than hes gotta go, and ideally for a nice haul.
  7. Well if drury is not willing to even grant roy an interview, and goes ahead and makes the uninspiring (ie. Hynes or Laviollete) hire that fails miserably, i may not be opposed to having his head on the chopping block.
  8. Yes. F'n yes. Roy is the kind of personality this emotionless corpse of a team needs.
  9. Maybe he knocks laf down to the ahl...thatll make for some heated threads...
  10. How bout just not look like total dog shit in half of our playoff games...that would be a welcome improvement over the last 2 seasons.
  11. wtf can't panarin play RW? for 11.6m he should be able to. he does do pretty well adapting to various placement on the pp, i think. kreider-zib-panarin and if he doesnt like it he can agree to a trade...
  12. Actually i recall he regularly admitted to leaving all the goaltending decisions to benny
  13. I would think Drury has a much longer leash than some here are suggesting. He was heir apparent for a while, before confidently being given the reins in place of his highly experienced and accomplished predecessors. He certainly had the rangers stacked and loaded for a legitimate cup run this season - and i don't think anyone was expecting gallant and this team to perform as miserably as they did. Unless the rangers don't make the playoffs in these coming two seasons, i wouldn't expect him to be on the chopping block.
  14. it doesn't have to be that guys threw him under the bus, but just didn't offer a ringing endorsement... kinda like the feedback Trouba & Goodrow gave the media - not exactly inspiring. and if you're going to give a guy who just failed miserably at getting a top-notch talent team out of the first round, you better have guys who say they'd battle to the death next year for the guy
  15. When panarin goes to look at the tablet after a missed breakaway, it'll flash "u f'n suck!"
  16. Trouba doesn't exactly have a golden tongue...but his 'endorsement' of gallant was as flat as a could be
  17. Q or no Q - there's no chance they hold onto gallant. none. i think we're forgetting that there was a good few weeks in the first half of the season when it looked like GG could be gone - this team didn't just start looking abysmal in the first round against the devils. hopefully drury has a good lay of the land on replacement possibilities, including Q, since he HAD to have started considering options earlier in the season.
  18. Surprised at how even keel gallant was in this last presser.
  19. Right - thats why its worth seeing him in at least one other system under a better coach...and if hes still a problem after that then u can talk about moving heaven and hell to push him out
  20. I didnt watch those teams, but i doubt either of them looked as pathetic in a single one of there games let alone three
