Chrome?s share of the global market for the month is hovering around 23.6%, roughly 3% behind Firefox. At 41.7%, Internet Explorer is still the dominant player in the market. Chrome, which became available to the public in December 2008, has increased its share of the market by approximately 8% since the beginning of the year. Firefox?s, meanwhile, has declined 4%; IE is down 9%. Should growth rates continue at their present levels, Chrome will take hold of 26.6% of the market in two months ? above Firefox?s expected 25.3% share. Phil Posted September 30, 2011 Author Share Posted September 30, 2011 Speed IMO is the single most important selling point for a browser. On that front alone, Chrome blows FF out of the water, IMO. FF has certainly improved it's speed in the latest update (7.0), but Chrome has advanced functionality like Pre DNS fetching (The links pointed [from the current page] to other domain names are resolved before the user clicks on that link), which FF does not. Loading pages before the completion of URL in address bar etc, to improve the surfing speed is huge in offering the type of speed users will actually pick up on. Standard browser for all PC's sold in the world, which means anyone who is relatively computer illiterate is going to stick with what is right there on their desktop or in front of their eyes. Also very much the case, I'd imagine, as you're probably dealing with a lot of people here who only use the internet to occasionally look up information like maps, restaurants, directions, reviews, etc. and then check email and do nothing else. Been a hardcore Mozilla guy since the early days, and when a friend of mine back maybe around 2.0ish told me "it wont be this good forever, something better will come along" I told him he was nuts, but Chrome has really grown into an awesome browser. I really didn't like the early releases, but after firefox started having these random hiccups on me, I got frustrated and installed it again about sometime in late July and haven't looked back. Faster, no hiccups, quicker start up and it does everything I need it to. I also like that it doesn't need to have all of these extra plugins and skins and what not, that was getting a bit ridiculous for me and I felt like Mozilla was focusing too much on plugins and not enough on core browser support.
