Why do I find that a troubling quote from a guy who should be one of THE MOST prolific leaders on the team.

 

Why is it SO HARD TO BE "UP THERE" all the time??? Does he mean that they simply can't play hard every night?

 

I think this is one of the main reasons the Rangers, I feel need a new regime, new leaders, and need to unload the old guard players like Kreider, Hank, Staal, Fast,etc. Hank, for as much of a competitor that he is, makes a quote like that? After how hot and cold he's been???? I don't like it!

 

I hope I'm taking that wrong, but that shit doesn't sit well with me at all. The sooner they can unload those half-hearted, no compete fat cats, the sooner this team will be back where it needs to be.

Because it's the NHL and they're a young team.

All the years I've played hockey I've never been on a team where the goalie was looked to for leadership. A goalies focus and concentration is different from a forward or defensemen. Never understand why the Rangers for years seem to come out flat to start games, but I don't see how you could blame the goalie for lack of concentration or drive from the rest of the team.

If you out work the Sens you'll probably beat them, but they're tough to out work.

I think you're vastly underestimating hard hard it is to bring that level of intensity night in and night out, especially for young inexperienced players. Two things illustrate this. One, young teams rarely win championships in any sport. Two, it takes a while to learn how to handle when things don't go your way. At every level until now most of these kids have dominated their competition. Now they have to learn how to handle adversity.

It's not just about effort level. It's also about making good decisions with and without the puck, being alert, talent, etc. The great teams consistently show this every game. Young teams like the Rangers make more mistakes throughout the course of a game, unrelated to effort. But the last game was a good example of what the team is capable of when they are at their best.

You can say every game is a good test but this game has a little more meaning considering the earlier match up to Ottawa. The Rangers were fresh off of beating a top team and the Caps are the top team. The Rangers shit the bed against Ottawa and now have a chance to make it right and show the consistency that has been needed. Really hoping they destroy them, convincingly. Full on effort from everyone and no softies from Hank. LGRs !!!

Fair points here RMC...I'm with you dude...and I agree there's more ingredients than just 100% pure effort.

 

I'm willing to accept that we're going to make mistakes with and without the puck, and also they're still learning the NHL game as LLTK referred to above.

 

If we get beat by a better team and still give it our all, I'm going to feel a lot better than if we come out like shit and play a flat, uninspired, effortless game that we all know these guys are better than...at any age. I just would rather hear a guy like Hank say something more inspiring to keep the young guys firing on all cylinders, not an excuse to play like shit and it's accepted.

I know what you're saying Oz. We better not hear one post game presser with someone saying "we didn't play a great game like we did vs the Caps, but ya know, at the end of the day, we're not going to be able to play at that level every night".

3-2 Rangers win in OT. Kreider with 2 goals including the OT winner.

Ah so it's gonna be one of those nights.

There's been quite a few odd falls so far. I can't imagine the Ottawa ice is bad but it seems like it right now.

Why is it so hard to play good against bad teams? It makes no fucking sense, but it keeps happening time after time with this team.
