Rangers Draft [D] Nils Lundkvist in 1st Rd. (28th) Pick

Drew a Penalty

Of course we don't, that guy doesn't exist, expecting a true 2C to arrive from this pool, at this time, was always fantasy.

The problem was always here, but it's not necessarily back breaking, and there's potential for somebody grow in to that role in the future.

Bingo. All the conversation about no 2C is as overblown as who's going to Hartford.

Right now it's Strome and if Howden, Chytil and Krav all go to the A...for this year, that's OK.

Not to get too off-course with this thread but since I don't feel that they will make the playoffs this year again, they should have a relatively high pick in this draft too. Address 2C there hopefully either with the pick or moving pieces to get that guy. That should still fit in line with the idea of being really competitive in 2-3 years.

3. Nils Lundkvist, D, New York Rangers

Current team: Lulea (SHL)

Lundkvist is breaking out in a major way for Lulea, playing as a top-pairing defenseman and producing at a rate especially impressive for a U20 player in the SHL. He is third among all defensemen in the SHL, with 17 points in 24 games, already well surpassing his 10 points from the previous season. In fact, he is currently on pace for the highest-scoring season by a U20 defenseman in SHL history. The current high-water mark is held by one-time Rangers prospect Tim Erixon, at 24 points, but Lundkvist is producing at a clip of 0.21 points per game greater than Erixon's 19-year-old season. One of their three first-round picks in 2018, the Rangers have another good piece to the rebuild puzzle in Lundkvist.

When you dig in to those Swedish numbers a little more they're not quite as impressive as you would think.

First, the comp in the article is Tim Erixon. He failed in NA, despite ample opportunity.

Second, David Runblad had 50 points on that same team as Erixon. He was only 4 months older than Erixon. Runblad also failed miserably in NA despite ample opportunity.

Point being, let's get Lundqvist over here, as soon as they think it appropriate, and see how he looks. Until that happens it's all just reading tea leaves. The numbers are really unimportant.

Agree.

That said, good numbers are better than bad ones...

Lundkvist with a career-high 3 point game today in the SHL. 1 goal and 2 primary assists. 5g, 16a and 21 points in 28 games this season.

Leads all U21 skaters (including forwards) with 21 points (closest has 14), 3rd in points by D-men.

Lundkvist is arguably our best prospect not playing for NYR.

Now tied for points on the best team in Sweden. As a 19 y old defenseman.

he?s so good, cant wait to see him in NA next year. He?ll need some time in the A, but I could see him get a call up or two next year.
