If my memory serves me right....

- All Jock Jams releases to date on CD

- Lifetime supply of JNCO jeans

- Tribal tattoos for all Executive staff

- And a pair of front row seats to the X-Games (Meet and greet with Tony Hawk)

  • Phil changed the title to What Package Was Sather Offfering the Pens for Jagr in '01?

Rangers General Manager Glen Sather said yesterday that Penguins General Manager Craig Patrick was only interested in the Rangers' top prospects, with whom Sather was not willing to part.

Sather would not elaborate on what his offer was to acquire Jagr but it is believed that left wing Jan Hlavac and defenseman Kim Johnsson, both second-year players, were part of a proposed package.

Sather said that Patrick did not give him a second chance to beat the Capitals' offer.

If it had been Jágr, then no Lindros.

What’s funny is that if the 4 teams involved, in the 2 trades that were actually made, it didn’t work out for any of them.

It was basically what we eventually traded for Lindros. We traded Johnsson, Hlavac and Brendl as the principal pieces in that deal; for Jagr, I believe it was similar. Maybe Lundmark, who was also highly touted at the time, was someone Patrick wanted too? Overall I think it was similar to that.

Jagr was never excited to be a Capital, and he wasn’t motivated, he became lazy. It was to the point that there were slight rumors that the Caps and Stars had spoken at the deadline in 2002 about a possible trade; that never happened, obviously. But the fact it was a discussion less than all the way through his first year in DC said a lot.

For a while in the 2001 offseason, it seemed like a slam dunk Jagr would eventually end up a Ranger, and it’s where he wanted to go. It was to the point that during his introductory press conference with the Capitals, he referenced the Rangers and how he believed that was his destination more than a few times.

There weren't enough casinos in the DC area.

In addition to Hlavac, Brendl, and Johnsson, didn't Craig Patrick want Dvorak and Mike York too?

Yeah, I remember York being mentioned. But Sather didn’t want to give him up.

I’m still surprised, as touted as Poti was, that he was willing to flip York for him just a few months later.

And then he flipped Dvorak for Anson Carter.
