Eastern Conference Team Has Shown 'Considerable Interest' in Evander Kane

There is credible chatter reaching Slap Shots that an Eastern Conference team has shown considerable interest in dealing for Evander Kane, the Sharks winger who on Nov. 30 is due to come off his 21-game suspension for violating NHL/NHLPA COVID-19 protocols,and no, it’s not the Rangers.

Kane, who has faced myriad personal issues throughout his career, was suspended for “an established violation of, and lack of compliance with, the NHL/NHLPA COVID-19 protocol” after being investigated by the league for falsifying his vaccination status. That is not some benign error or oversight. Kane’s current vaccination status is unknown. Of course, Kane apologized for his “mistake.”

The 30-year-old Kane, whose contract, at a $7 million average annual value, runs through 2024-25, led the Sharks with both 22 goals and 49 points last season while alienating multiple teammates. That has been standard operating procedure throughout his career for the winger. He is enmeshed in a poisonous relationship with his estranged wife, Anna Kane, who in September accused him of sexual assault and domestic violence. Both parties have been granted domestic violence restraining orders against one another.

The Sharks are believed willing to pick up half of the cap hit and money on the contract in order to move the winger, who would, from a talent standpoint, fit into just about any team’s top six. But good luck to the guys in his new room.

And good luck on a PR basis to the club that might take the risk and acquire him. Who wouldn’t want to buy their kids the authentic jersey of a guy who was inauthentic about his vaccination status?

heading for waivers, trade interest story was likely BS as if anyone showed trade interest the sharks would be trying to deal him with retained $ than just putting up for grabs to be had without giving anything up.

No one will touch him. His baggage is way too heavy to bring into a new locker room. Some humble pie is in store for Evander Kane.

Vigneault probably would want him. Cap I believe won't fit. He seems more defensive minded cause his killed their offense.  Possibly the Devils. They can fit him in. Kane would have to eat crow though.

I cannot imagine any team taking him at that price tag given the cap world we're in now without either a move lined up or a very bizarre LTIR situation.

If the Sharks truely willing to pay 3.5 for him to play elsewhere. There is a GM that's chatted with the coach, that's possibly quizzed the team Capt. on if they can make this work. IMO

Buffalo, SJ, and Arizona work out a three way trade. Kane + pick to Arizona , they trade Kane to Buffalo for Skinner + pick retaining 1m . Arizona then trades Skinner to SJ retaining 2m. 
 

so it would work out where Arizona retains 3m overall salaries and get two or three picks, figure couple of 2nd rounders and prospect from one side and a prospect from the other. SJ takes over Skinners contract but instead of 9m, it’s 7m and Kane returns to Buffalo at a 6m cap hit instead of 7. 
 

makes sense for all parties. Something like that will probably happen.

Why does that make sense for the Sabres, who already had him, and traded him?

Well, he had some previous success there in the past and instead of paying 9m to Skinner until 2027 to pot 10 goals, they pay 6m until 2026 for Kane who will get you 20-30 goals a year. I’m obviously just speculating but I don’t specifically remember him being a problem in Buffalo with Kane. I think they traded him because he was an impending free agent, no?
