He's been mentioned a few times by me and Phil, but I figured we might as well have a thread given the trend.

This team has had a critical need for someone who's adept at faceoffs and Bellemare is among the best in the league. Not only that, he's among the better defensive forwards in the league and would provide some legitimacy to a fourth line that has been filled with misfit toys over the last few seasons. The team needs veteran leadership and Bellemare provides that as he's known for his character and is someone who has played on competitive rosters of late. While he doesn't address an issue of size or toughness, he's gritty and hard to play against. Look at most of the championship rosters from the last decade and you'll find a defensive specialist akin to Bellemare somewhere on the roster. He also provides Gallant with a familiar face he can rely upon in tough situations. He's 36 but most of his career was spent in Sweden and France so the mileage on him isn't as bad and that's evident in his game.

Ideally he'd be the go-to fourth-line center with Rooney playing on his wing. They can alternate on draws as needed. Think of the dynamic between Dominic Moore and Brian Boyle as a fourth line.

I think a two-year deal would be pretty inexpensive.

Yeah, the key is to remake the entire fourth line. Bellemare + another heavyweight like Martinook can kill a whole flock of birds with a couple of stones. Between Bellemare and Martinook alone you've drastically improved your leadership, your penalty-killing, your overall team toughness, your fourth-line's ability to act as a reliable checking unit, etc.

That Bellemare is a legit multi-positional fourth-liner is a real draw, too, even at 36.

this guy along with greenway are at the top of my list - you basically hope greenway turns into bellemare as they are similar, and i think either one is the right guy for gallant's fourth line.

Fuck ex Flyers.

Come on Pete!!! Hell, David Wells was an Oriole and Paul O'Neill was a Cincinnati Red before they became Yankees...and they're 2 of my all time faves!! ;)

Carbomb was an ex-Flyer. He fuckin' ruled. So did Lindros before his head went to mush.
