I think defensively someone like Stralman is perfectly fine to add to the roster. I'm good with stabilizing the defense on short term deals for the next couple of years until all of our bloated defensemen contracts expire.

In regards to the roster, Panarin is a better add than Dzingel and Stralman. Panarin and Stralman is an even better add than Dzingel and Stralman (I mentioned how to move money for Stralman). That's the difference between your roster and the one I put up. Why do you think Dzingel makes this a better team than Panarin?

Also, you put Chytil and Kravtsov on your 2nd line and then in response to my roster you talk about the risk of having Chytil and Kravtsov on the 2nd line and destroying the kids. Bias much?

And yet again, you skirt past the fact that it's not about next year. Why don't you give me your planned roster 1-2 years from now? You roster will still be stuck with middle/bottom 6 players, mine will have a legitimate top line.

Well Dzingel being there assures you your top 2 centers. If the kids push there way into the top then great but there is no pressure. The ordering of the wings will change all year depending on chemistry and performance. My lineup also doesn’t need any cap movement to accomplish. In fact it allows you to add a Tanev or chiarot or donskoi to further deepen your roster.

The whole point of my lineup is to position the rangers not to be tied into anybody. While you may sign a Dzingel to four years he would not have any trade protection. The rangers would be a group of middle six forwards with the potential of the kids being more than that. I would hope for the continued growth of Zibanejad to carry a top line. It would properly sllot the kids into positions to grow and hopefully with an added two years of prospect mining gives the rangers an abundance of depth from which to either develop or position themselves to acquire game changing talent.

Do it’s not panarin or Dzingel. It’s panarin or Dzingel, stralman/chiarot, and Tanev or donskoi.

The rangers as of today have zero depth. There literally isn’t a forward in the ahl that can help if an injury or two occurred.

Whatever you think of this team it has been incredibly lucky in the health department. You can’t just willingly ignore that and expect for the same every year. Depth matters.

Low bar to clear.

After EK the drop off in quality for FA defensemen this year is insane. I think they need to add one quality defenseman going into next year. I wonder how much they will look into trading for one. I have trouble believing they are keeping the same exact 6 intact, and there's not much they can do about Shattenkirk or Staal at the moment.

Summer 2020 is shaping up to be better far better for UFA defensemen though. We will see how many of those get re-signed.

Tanev doesn't swing the pendulum whatsoever.

At some point you have to bet on a free agent, and you can look over the next few years and the only one close is Hall next season and Goudreau in 2022. Good luck with Hall being a free agent and wanting to come here - and you'll also need to sign him to a Panarin contract. No difference. Maybe you want to wait for Goudreau in 2022 and hope he doesn't re-sign? You're looking forward to an imaginary offseason of high talent UFAs.

We will just agree to disagree. I want high quality instead of the "more of the same" approach you are presenting.

No matter what, the Rangers need to figure out a way to clear the decks on defense. They just have so many mediocre d-men getting paid a lot of money. I think you could live with one of Staal, Smith, or Shattenkirk but definitely not all three. And if you're going after someone like EK, you need people like Hajek in the lineup in the bottom pair getting paid nothing but being effective.

Your franchise player doesn’t have to come through free agency. “At some point”. You are in the infancy of this rebuild. People talk like this fan base doesn’t have it in them to stay the course and not be impatient. Exhibit a. You reference some point as if the rangers have been toiling around rebuilding for years. They are three weeks removed from tearing it down to the studs. This whole idea of only being able to build a team by only signing the top of top guys and even more importantly who the fuck builds through free agency. There is one team that operates that way. The cap was implented in large reason because of them. The idea that you are doing anything different here by wanting ek and panarin is laughable. It equates to explaining why this time socialism will work.

Tanev isn’t an upgrade to what the rangers have on their bottom 6? He doesn’t bring more of what Quinn preaches? He’s hardly doing much to your cap to even worry about it. He’s high energy max effort and a pain in tgr as to play against. He also has some skill that may have been buried some playing in Winnipeg.

Yeah, you really flew off the handle here. Good luck convincing anyone that Dzingel is what helps turns the corner.

Hard to tell if you're joking sometimes. Why do I care about the bottom 6 on a team full of good bottom 6 players? The problem is the top 6. Always has been.

You’re bottom six here would be in the ahl on pretty much every good nhl team. Adding your depth and fielding a competitive team is doable while developing through the draft. Upgrading your depth doesn’t have to impact you years down the road cap wise. Hopefully the prospects you have develop into those guys who are the foundation to your team. Unfortunately they are 19-21 year old kids right now and some haven’t even been drafted yet. Signing panarin while exciting won’t do shit until the entire defense is overhauled and you add to your depth at forward. Again the center position after Zibanejad is a barren until those guys develop. It could take years.

So yes I’m not worried about the bottom six. I’m worried about the kids developing in a competitive environment. Strengthening the lineup throughout helps that and also gives the coach the ability to teach lessons and not push to far. It’s all about the kids. They are the future not panarin. Without them panarin means shit.
