Long live the King Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 https://www.nhl.com/news/puck-and-player-tracking-system-enters-next-phase/c-304203086?tid=277549086 Pretty cool, and for the Kenny Albert fans out there... NBC will include some elements in its main TV broadcast. For those who want more, it will provide a second-screen digital stream showcasing live puck and player data on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app. The stream will be produced out of its own truck, called by its own broadcast team of Kenny Albert and Keith Jones, and feature graphics with real-time stats like skating speed, shot speed, shift times and total ice time.
ThirtyONE Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 Fun for the ASG but I really don’t need any more stats In my life.
Long live the King Posted January 25, 2019 Author Posted January 25, 2019 They tried this 20 years ago with the puck. This is much more sophisticated than the glowing puck
Pete Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 Fun for the ASG but I really don?t need any more stats In my life. This will X out shot attempts equalling puck possession.
Puck Head Posted January 27, 2019 Posted January 27, 2019 This will X out shot attempts equalling puck possession. Which never made any sense to me. True possession could be measured this way Sent from my iPhone using Blueshirts Brotherhood mobile app powered by Tapatalk
fletch Posted January 27, 2019 Posted January 27, 2019 During the ASG... I think the line trailing the puck would help the casual fan, but I found distracting. MPH of skaters, pucks, etc were cool... but smart graphics better on larger TVs.
ThirtyONE Posted January 27, 2019 Posted January 27, 2019 The video game style name plate was not good — enormously distracting. The tail on the puck I didn’t understand either. Like I said above, fun for the ASG but no real reason to use either.
Scott Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 No thank you on all of it. Leave well enough alone.
NYR2711 Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 I don't mind the stats that they can get from this, I just don't like the tail on the puck, its too distracting.
Future Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 I think it would be really interesting to see stuff like Distance Skated, Average Skate Speed, Time With Puck Possession, # of stops and starts, etc. etc. Some of those give a quantifiable measure to things like "effort" and "play speed."
