Vegas Golden Knights Franchise Identity Revealed

I think they really dropped the ball on this one. Foley got fixated on the name Black Knights and only wanted something along those lines, even though there is a team right in his own division with a Medieval theme already. Now the logo, while nice, bares a strong resemblance to the Kings logo. And the team colors look to be black and gold while the Kings are black and silver.

Bandits, Wranglers, Lawmen, all suitable names that conjure images of the Wild West, yet Foley created a team image that looks like they could be the Kings AHL farm team.

Funny how the only team in the league with an old west name are in the biggest Metropolitan area of the country, Tex Rickard's New York Rangers.

I wanted something a bit more aggressive, like Rattlers. Not really impressed with the Golden Knights, but, it does have a link to the state. Even though it is the Silver State, Nevada is the largest gold producer in the US, so, golden does fight to a point.

That being said, can't wait for the Rangers to play here.

Pretty quickly they'll be called the 'Vegas Knights' (like the Portland Trailblazers became the Portland Blazers).... nice play on Vegas Nights... and they've got gold referring to casinos.

Sharks got popular real quick because of their logo/color scheme (and good wins on the ice!), but you can't always have that good of a launch.

Knights will be a nice novelty in the desert, hopefully the franchise will be viable long-term.

I think they have a good shot at being a viable franchise. The ownership is investing in youth hockey, which will help build the younger fan base, and they are supporting UNLV's hockey team (which I did not know they had one until recently). As any franchise, it will need to show competitiveness to be supported. If they put on a shit show on ice, they will fail. I hope they do well, except against the Rangers.

This is such a smart move. NJ Hockey was no where near what it is now prior the Devils moving here. Same could be said about any other non-normal hockey market. And just like everyone else here (I think) I'll be going to a Golden Knights game the next Vegas trip.

It will be a nice winter trip down to Vegas for a show, gambling, golf and an NHL game. That's a great weekend.

I was in Vegas in 2008 for a bachelor party and one night went to The Orleans Arena for a Las Vegas Wranglers game. I asked a guy working the door where the box office was and he just said "how many you need", handed me two tickets right on the blue line. Game was over by 10pm so had a whole night of entertainment ahead of us.

The naming of the Las Vegas NHL expansion team took a potential twist Monday.

According to a report by the Fayetteville Observer, the Vegas Golden Knights name “has caught the attention of the United States military because a parachute team goes by the same name.”

Alison Bettencourt, a spokeswoman for the Army Marketing and Research Group in Arlington, Virginia was quoted in the story as saying, “We’re reviewing the situation and figuring out what the way ahead would be.”

The Golden Knights are based in Fort Bragg and have used this name since the 1960s.

There's no reason they can't still use it.

There's a Giants in the NFL and MLB, there's Panthers in the NHL and NFL, there's Bruins in the NCAA and NHL, there was Oilers in the NFL and NHL, the list goes on and on. Parachuting and hockey have nothing to do with each other.

This should be a non-issue.

It'll all boil down to copyrights. Whoever has them, and had them first, likely wins.
