How about...cereal on its own isnt soup, but you can add things to it to make it similar to what a soup is.

Cereal isn't soup to me only because soup requires boiling, or at the very least requires that all/most of the ingredients are put in at once to create the final product. Cereal is food that has liquid poured on it, or often doesn't, so it's not soup.

Cereal is its own category. Like you can cereal things or soup things. If you put a bunch of peanuts in milk, it becomes cereal. If you put mushrooms in water, it's soup.

there is an assumption that "cereal" means "in a bowl with milk poured on top" but that's not always accurate. people eat dry cereal.

Nope. Because cereal is often eaten dry, and not with milk. The milk is like dressing to a salad. While it's not common, salads can also be eaten without dressing.

 

But it's closer to salad than it is soup, yes. It's just not either.

lol, I'm not saying I've never done it. I've put down some Frosted Flakes in my day. But that's more like eating cookies than it is the whole cereal experience
