Wennberg had a maintenance day today. Chytil skated at full in his place and will make the trip to DC. -

Playoffs 2023-24 WCQF: Stars vs. Golden Knights

I didn’t watch too too much. But it was 3-1 with an empty net, no? I didn’t see the second VGK goal. But the first one was like a 2-on-0 with Eichel and Marchessault and Eichel just made an incredible play for a tip in for Marchessault. I’m not disagreeing overall, because he could have been better in Game 1. But tonight, 23 saves on 25 shots and your team only grabs 1 goal early in the 1st? Gonna take more from Dallas’ big guys to make a dent if they want to come back. Just a bad matchup. Almost reminds me of 2015 when we were beating everyone left and right and the only team we had issues with all season and never beat was Tampa. And we know how that ended for us. Dallas may be on the same path against a team they are yet to beat thus far this entire season. -

That was my guess once the videos of him came out that he was skating and doing non-contact shit gingerly on the ice. Didn’t look like he had a noticeable physical issue. So this would add up. -

The Vegas Golden Kircumvention go on the road and take 2 in Dallas. Some might say it’s shocking since Dallas is the 1 seed and Vegas is the 8 seed in the West. But, please. Enough with this narrative. Dallas was behind an 8-ball regardless. Vegas beat them all 3 games this year I believe. And now they just went from playing the Power Rangers after they morph into superheroes and fast forwarded right to the end of the episode where they’re now facing the Megazord. Bullshit. If a player is on LTIR before the Trade Deadline and does not play in the final game of the regular season, they should not be permitted to play in at least the 1st Round of the playoffs. -

By the way, Alec Martinez returned tonight too. This current VGK lineup tonight is $4.5 Million over the salary cap and is about to go up 2-0 on the #1 seed in the West unless Dallas can do something here with under 2 minutes left in the 3rd. -

Maybe I’m biased because he’s the play-by-play guy on the radio for the Jets. But, Bob Wischusen is extremely good at doing hockey games too. Doing Game 2 of this series right now with Cally. A very good pair. He filled in for Sam a few times here and there back in the day on MSG Network. I actually think he had the call for Jagrs 600th NHL Goal. Maybe biased, but don’t think I am here. He’s good. And as a pair, they’re very good together. -

Playoffs 2023-24 ECQF: Hurricanes vs. Islanders

From what I’m reading, some are saying Varlamov and others are saying it’s Sorokin. So who knows? -
That roster fucking stinks. That’s not Quinn’s fault. It’s a young, rebuilding team. Like others have said, unless this is something where maybe the exit interviews weren’t painting him in a good light, I don’t get this at all. And even still, it’s a bit meh. My guess is he is going to have to end up as an assistant somewhere, because I’m not sure a head coaching job is in his immediate future. And re-work his way back into a HC position.

Interesting, because I just saw this… Usually indicates starter. Lots of chatter on social media about which way to go. To be honest, Varlamov is one of those “backups” that really isn’t a backup. When he’s hot, he’s the kind of guy who can steal games. Similar situation to what we have. Sorokin struggled down the stretch and Varlamov got hot. Turning to Sorokin now, down 0-2 against a team who just delivered a potential gut punch, seems like the logical move. But unless they pick up their play, it doesn’t matter who is in net. It’s not like they lost either of the last 2 games because of Varlamov. -

Yep. And as much as rival fans want to act like he’s a plug who can’t play, they clearly don’t have fully functioning eyeballs. He isn’t terrible. He is always in on the forecheck. He has reach. He’s not stupid when the puck is on his stick. He keeps it simple. He’s not what they think he is. I’m not saying he’s the Second Coming. But for a guy his size and in his role, he’s not overmatched up here. And spot on with the first part too. Valiquette actually said it perfectly last night. This team can beat you on the ice or in an alley in a street fight. And they don’t get rattled. They know the job, they know the mission. Just a different feel. This is a game by game thing, and this team doesn’t like losing games. -

I think the only way it goes down is if it’s a blowout and they just force the issue or start taking runs at our guys. But I also see the Rangers just letting them try and get under their skin, smiling, taking the PP’s and really making them pay. -

Well the good thing is we should be done with McCauley and Sutherland now since they did the 1st 2 games. McCauley and Co. totally lost control of that game. You either swallow your whistle and call nothing or you’re ticky tacky. I don’t think anyone on the ice knew what constituted as a penalty last night. Just totally unprofessional, stupid, and quite frankly, dangerous. I don’t think anyone from either side could be pleased with the job of the officiating crew last night. And I honestly don’t know how the NHL can watch that and think they did a good job. It almost spiraled out of control. A joke. -
20 minutes in, and I can safely say I have no clue whatsoever what these refs will or will not deem a penalty the remainder of the game. Just an absolute and utter joke from the league. This isn’t about dirty or not dirty. It’s what is or isn’t a penalty. And if you’re calling a tight game or ticky tacky shit. Because they let obvious shit go and then called ticky tacky shit. Both ways.

I don’t think it’s as much an issue with their gas tank as it is just a flat out mismatch. The Rangers are better than them in every single facet. And it’s not even by a small margin. It’s a big gap. Much of the talk entering this series was how they can smother you defensively, and how they would try to bore the Rangers to death. And how Charlie Lindgren has been on fire of late. Last I checked, the Rangers are defensively better. And the Rangers have the best goalie in the league since the All-Star Break; a goalie with a history of dominance, not some AHL-flub who caught lightning in a bottle. Play your game and this Ranger team can beat the Capitals into dust. Fast.
-
I don’t think they can. It’s not their game. If they open up things, they’re leaving the defense out to pasture against a team who feasts off the transition game. Used to say this about the Lundqvist-era Rangers against teams like the early-2010’s Caps: don’t make it a fast paced game. Same could be said for this Caps team against us. I mean if they want to go that way, it’s fine. I love our odds even more then. But, yeah, to your point at the end, just capitalize on your chances and rip this teams heart out. Our chances will be there, we know that.
