  1. Laf annoys me because he looks so bad out there, but people wanting to get rid of Kakko are nuts.

He was the best defensive forward in hockey last year at 19 years old and paced 15 goals over a full season.  He's gonna get better.  If a guy plays that well in his own end and in the neutral zone and scores 20 you take that all day long.  If a guy did that as a 27 year old an hit the open market we'd be talking about a $5-6 mil per year contract.

If you're only acceptable expectation is some game breaking 40 goal scorer then he may not become that, but that doesn't mean you get rid of a guy who is a high quality piece for a contending team.

The statements from the players are ridiculous. If there's name-calling at practice, then how did the players not know?

No discipline for Cheveldayoff says a lot.

What Torts said is spot on - how everyone turns a blind eye and no one stands up for this guy is just...disgusting. Fuck em.

They all knew, other players have already made that clear.  The ones that are still playing are lying now to protect their image.

  3. What the crap is this?  I'm an hour and 17 mins into this and they have done nothing but talk.  It's a bunch of alien political crap or something?  I could be watching CNN for this.  I have no idea what it's supposed to be about or what any back story is and I've never seen the original but I'm so bored.  Maybe I just can't watch science fiction anymore.  I end up turning so much stuff off and I used to watch everything.  I hate all the new comic book movies and I like Star Wars cuz I already know who the people are.  I don't know who these dune people are, but they're boring.

    Just spitballing here…

Chytil, Kravtsov, Schneider, 1st Round pick for Kane with 50% retained. Is our foot even in the door? Just curious. Not saying if I would or would not do it.

Idk how you're still suggesting trades for them at this point.  Having one of these guys pull on our sweater would turn my stomach.  Even if it meant winning a cup, not worth it.  They can keep them.

  5. He's a shooter, needs a playmaking winger.  He played well a couple games ago where he scored and his line put up both goals.  Now his line mates are about to be Blais and Goodrow.  How's that gonna work.  Preseason may not count, but his skills looked pretty good in the last game when he scored a hat trick.  If he had a winger the style of Zuc or somebody similar I think his numbers would look a lot better.

I still see plenty of talent and don't want to trade him and end up being Ottawa in another version of the Zibanejad trade.

  6. Year old article, but just found it and still a good read.  He's 19, if he can add 8 lbs he'll be the exact same size as Marchand.

Interestingly enough, Berard didn't always make his name with grit and tenacity - when he was a kid, he had enough skill to excel on his offensive talents. But when the youngster arrived at the NTDP in the fall of 2018, he was just 5-foot-7 and 130 pounds. Plus, he was surrounded by other top-end kids from across the country like Beniers, Jake Sanderson and Thomas Bordeleau. If Berard was going to thrive, he would have to add different elements to his game. Luckily, he also had a great new coach in Seth Appert.

"What I unbelievably appreciate that Seth did, is Seth helped define his identity and what he needed to be in order to become a good player at that level and in college," David said. "He worked really hard with Brett in adding those elements to his game. His tenacity and grit were always a part of him, but they didn't always have to come out. Seth brought that out of him and got him to buy in to playing a bit differently."

Now, NHLers such as Brad Marchand, Brendan Gallagher and Brayden Point were focal points and Berard began to embrace his inner thorn.

"It's not always butterflies and rainbows when you're trying to get a kid to do things differently," David said. "Seth is a great coach because he identified those things and got Brett to buy in. What makes me proud as a dad is that Brett was coachable and he understood he had to make changes - and now he's benefitting from the changes he made."

    Are we cup favorites yet?

now Sutter—that’s a coach. His team has a system.

Lol yeah all of our lines just do what they want and "play physical" and our D just has to play good defense and not make bad jumps.  That's literally the entire philosophy.  That's it.  It's a pickup game and as the players put it "way less thinking", but also no system.

It was lightning in a bottle in Vegas because the players worked well doing their own thing.  Here so far it looks like a bit of mess.  They'll either figure it out on their own or they won't.
