  1. Athletes are human so....if I'm offered a job in Edmonton making significantly more money than my current job but love my life where I live and enjoy the area on top of the kick ass company I work for, I go to my boss and say, these guys offered me a boatload of money to relocate. Can you give me something to make me stay? I love it here but this money would be life changing. In turn the current company gives you a small bump, you continue loving life and edmonton finds a new schlep to try and poach.

It all comes down to priorities. In those shoes, seeing my future with an up and coming juggernaut with a leadership role for a cup contender in my prime/veteran years, I'm taking that and settling down.

I'm no where near that status (obviously) but doesnt it get to a point where a few million doesnt change your lifestyle. Proper investments can make up the difference.

  2. The wierd thing is we all knew the pick was a reach when it happened, what made management think this would pan out differently? He was never projected to be more than Callahan. You reach for higher at #7. It just was an I'll advised pick. We all knew it. Find one person who thought at #7 that was a good ceiling to reach for. If we shot for the most talented at that time and it never panned out; who could complain? Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't but boy I hope that pick was a MAJOR learning experience.
  3. Larry has written that 5-6 years @ 7 mil is the starting point of negotiations. 7m x 5y......enticing when that line is firing. Tough call. I was all aboard the ship him out train but damn, what a year he is having.

So, how do we clear that cap? Canes looking for a D man with term. Skjei? Buyout Lundquist? Idk how they play this chess match but this is going to be an interesting couple of weeks.

  4. I appreciate the advice. I figured I created the thread and said a more forceful decision needed to be made so it wasn’t necessary to reiterate my stance on the King

I’m in favor of a buyout. A time comes for every player in every organization. It’s not always mutual and our offseason is largely affected by Hanks cap hit. Cutting that in half would be huge.

    True

  5. We have Panarin for how many more years? Strome has chemistry with the guy and is having a career year. Why would they move him? DeAngelo has blossomed into everything you would want in an Offensive D man and we are going to sell him for some Hope's that one of these guys in the system blossoms into a 60 point Offensive D man? Insanity....if these prospects are so promising then sell them for a center. Why sell a known for an unknown?
  6. 20-30 point player. Keep it under 3 mil and we win; agree with the argument that some continuity during these rebuilding times is good. Plus the squad has already iterated their admiration for his dedication to the team. The type of guy you keep around for morale.
  7. I hope the Rangers don't see it that way. It would be a mistake to pass on Kreider @ only 5 years to keep a career 35 point guy who was fortunate enough to play a year with Panarin.

Soon enough Zibanejad and Chytil will be the top 2 centers for quite some time.

What comps do you have for Kreider at 5 years. If we give him 6 mil, that sure eats a lot of space moving forward if he drops off.

  8. This team is better with Strome and ADA than it is with Kreider.

If Kreider is retained then it's bye ADA, not Strome.

The fact is there are plenty of D to replace ADA in the system. There are no centers replacing Strome especially with Howden moving to wing and looking light years better.

Yes, I do believe both will be retained and Kreider will be sent elsewhere by the deadline and I think that is the right decision. This team isn't better with Kreider eating that cap space over any of the alternatives. I'd be listening to all offers for Kreider, ADA, Georgiev and Buch. Packages, hockey deals, picks, all of it. (I'd prefer to retain ADA but sometimes a deal can be to good to say no and honestly, he sat out with no leverage this year, imagine his demands and his ability to sit out next year after his production this season, we may not even be able to retain him at that point)
