This team has a much larger concern about their top players disappearing. I don’t trust Panarin at all, and he’ll be gripping his stick tighter more than ever.

I don’t think it’ll be a big issue against the Capitals, but for any team they would face after this round, I would expect Panarin to be on a milk carton again.

    Zib - present

    Kreider - present

    Igor - present

Fox - present (could still do more tbh)

Trocheck - present (and then some)

We just need Panarin now…to keep on doing what he’s been doing all year. I’m somewhat surprised more people aren’t talking about his game last night. Maybe just a bit overshadowed by Igor Laffy and Trocheck being ridiculously spectacular. He’s driving to the middle of the ice, taking shots when he has a good look instead of forcing extra passes that aren’t there. That play prior to his OT penalty (not his fault) was a thing of beauty. He’s chipping in on the forechecking. He’s laser focused on maintaining the aggression and it needs to stay that way. The production is following.

I thought he was definitely fighting it a bit at times, but still a top tier performance by him. I also noticed how well the Rangers were at clearing rebounds or just protecting the front in general after saves.

He definitely was fighting it. There were a lot of unclean stops, dropping or fumbling catchable shots, somewhat shaky rebound control, but this is what elite goalies do. They fight through and persevere, when they aren’t exactly playing up to their A+ level and still get the job done. By the time it hit OT he seemed to be gobbling almost everything up clean by then - like he had finally hit a groove.

  3. At the time, Trocheck probably had the 2nd best year of his career last year. He was a monster at faceoffs. Played all situations. Gets chippy and in your face. Forechecks well. The production was roughly the same as what they were getting out of Strome, but had all that extra stuff thrown on top. There were projections for the first year production to look more like what he did this year, based on the fact he was already a really good player without Panarin, unlike Strome. He fell short of those projections last year, but he was still a better overall player than Strome. The fact the gap between the two widened so significantly this year doesn’t mean it didn’t exist to begin with.

News flash: all teams shorten their bench in OT. Almost no one uses fourth liners, including good teams, like the Canes.

Rempe keeps playing until they lose.

Yeah, right, that’s why I was saying him not playing much from the 3rd period on doesn’t exactly kill you if the Canes are shortening their bench significantly more.

Put Chytil between Cuylle and Kakkp and move Wennberg to the 4th line.  Don't need Rempe trying to make an impact and getting some stupid suspension in this series.  He's a non-factor against the Canes.  Save him for the ECF.

I think this is still the right move. If something isn’t right with Chytil in-game, you move Wennberg back up and Chytil gets nailed to the bench like Rempe does anyway for the rest of the game. Then you go back to Rempe the next game.

  6. I’m more 50/50 on this after seeing OT deployment last night. The Rangers were rotating 11 forwards, so Rempe was benched yeah, but the Canes were rotating 9. The Rangers are not likely going to suffer from one guy benched in OT if the Canes are benching 3.

Bullshit penalties called against him at any time during the normal course of the game when he’s out there is still a potential problem though.

Tough call, but I’m less concerned about losing depth from his benchings late in a close game than I was. At least against the Canes here.

This is why he was always a huge upgrade at 2c. Fantastic signing by Drury and worth every penny.

Yup. Even last year he was head and shoulders above what Strome ever did, because he plays a complete game and Strome never did.

The canes reddit thread on him is free entertainment. Basically saying he's adopted our culture and become a different person.

My dears, he was a rat before you and he'll be a rat after us. But for now, he's our rat.

I don’t know what their point is even if it were true. So what? He’s a stud in NYC. Deal with it

They should be more concerned with the fact they gave a 1st and 3rd to offersheet Kotkaniemi, gave him 5 mill per, and that decision made them cheap about re-signing Trocheck a year later. Kotkaniemi is on the 4th line and played less than 10 min in a 2OT game last night.

These two teams are pretty even. I expect all other games to be as close as these two games were.

5v5 has been razor close. Special teams has not. A best case scenario for the Rangers has unfolded through first two games and it’s been magnificent to watch

Hopefully the Rangers keep perspective going into game 3. Two years ago the Hurricanes went up 2-0…and we all know what happened
