  1. I agree. In my opinion this can and should make or break Drury’s career here. This was the rest of the cap flexibility used up here. The rest has to go to keep a few kids around. No Cup in the next few seasons and he’s probably canned.
  2. 5 x 5? That’s it? All of the Rangers beat writers were blowing absolute smoke that this was about term or about a high $ when it came to Strome (or Copp for that matter). Both guys took a relatively shorter 5 yr term when everyone said they wanted 7 years. This would have been a great deal for the Rangers. Anyway, I think Trocheck can work out just fine but either our beat writers are on the take or Drury was feeding them absolute dog shit to work with lol
  3. Nobody: Johnny Gaudreau: https://www.getyarn.io/yarn-clip/e16aa54a-c7ce-4825-ba6a-9939c16e49b1
  4. How is Columbus affording this exactly? They’ll have no cap space and Laine still unsigned?
  5. I can honestly say I did not see this coming, but if the rumored price of 12 a year is true then that’s rough to turn down even if it means you play in Columbus lol
  6. Agree. I meant for a full season on that. At the deadline they can get him half retained like you said and probably for only a 1st and C prospect. Maybe less if he only waives for here. I can’t imagine he wants to do the Hawks any favors right about now after they fucked him over so restrict it to one team to ensure cheap price or walk and they get nothing.
  7. No it’s not, but feel free to do a full breakdown and pretend two of the worst faceoff teams weren’t in the final four, including the Cup winner
  8. A less productive Derek Stepan. Cirelli was blessed to be a part of the team he is on. He’s a great defensive center, but it’s an overpay hoping he develops some more offensively for sure.
  9. Simple really. You shouldn’t allocate that much more cap to a 4th line player when you have mid-6 needs.
  10. Don’t sleep on continued progression in the dot from Chytil. Been getting better every year. He’s ready for another jump in percentages there. It should be noted that Colorado was 28th in faceoff percentage this year and won the Cup. The Rangers were 24th and made the ECF. The Flyers were 6th and missed the playoffs by a country mile. So maybe it’s not as big of a deal as it’s always made out to be.
  11. Exactly what I was thinking. Cuylle or Othmann up on that 3rd line wing instead of Goodrow, and Goodrow to 4c. And if neither prove ready, you can do worse than Goodrow up on the 3rd even if it wouldn’t score as much barring breakouts from Chytil/Kakko. It’s also a lineup that is still plenty good enough to be a good playoff team that can supplement at the deadline and fix it then.
  12. Not sure Kakko is enough to get Kane double-retained through a 3rd team so his cap hit fits at $2.625M. With the moves that Drury made today, it's clear now that the play for Kane is a deadline move. There were options for it to be a full season move, but not anymore.
  13. It will be interesting to see the finishing pieces here. There's still a lot Drury can manipulate. Assuming Jones/Hajek are the 6/7 D, and Kakko re-signed around $2.5M over 2 seasons, there will be 1 more forward position to fill with about $1.2M in space. That might be for a 4C (Rydahl $750k, Brodz $763k, or other) if Goodrow is slotted in on the 3rd line wing with Chytil, or it might be for a different bottom 6 wing option if Goodrow is slotted in at 4C instead. With the way it's configured right now, that one forward slot is an opportunity for an Othmann, Cuylle, Trivigno, or any number of potential surprises in camp to make the roster. I have a feeling this is what Drury will do. Sign Kakko. No more moves. Leave that one bottom 6 spot open for competition (my money would be on Cuylle).
  14. No way Trouba goes as a cap dump if he goes. He might save us cap, but he's not a cap dump player. Nope. There will be teams who will pay to have him on their team regardless of cap hit.
  15. Yup. This was easily the better approach than a buyout. You can’t pay to get rid of a dead cap hit once it’s on the books. Good move Drury! I feel like Gorton would have executed the buyout instead.
  16. Normally, yes, but the Rangers are in a unique position to reload quickly for a second window during core transition. But I get it. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch. There’s a great opportunity now. Don’t fuck with it just for a potentially great opportunity 4-5 years from now.
  17. I’m really bittersweet on this deal. It’s not out of the realm of possibilities for the guy to put up 30g/70p with Panarin, but is this a 7 yr guy? I get free agency, and this can be what it takes and all that, but not everyone is getting 7 year deals just because of that. I’m excited to see how it works. We have 3 years to win a Cup in the first window. This deal could make or break it.
  18. Sure, but I was just answering how it could be done. Not if it made sense. Maybe it does make sense. Kreider - Zib - Lafreniere Panarin - Miller - Kravtsov Goodrow - Trocheck - Kakko Blais - Rydahl/whoever - Reaves is a lineup that can win a Cup, supplemented with a RW (Kane) at the deadline.
