  1. In game 6, a slow start doomed the Jets, as a third period push falls one goal short. Canada has one remaining hope, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
  2. In game 5, Jets lost a two goal lead in the third period and gave up a stunning goal in the last minute to fall behind in their series with the Blues 3-2, try and stave off elimination tonight (Saturday). Leafs have managed to eke out a 3-2 lead, try and finish off the Bruins on Sunday.
  3. Flames bounced in five games. After Calgary dominated game one, amazing how Colorado turned this series around. Calgary was an offensive juggernaut in the regular season, goal scoring dried up in the playoffs. Gaudreau had a series to forget, game five was especially rough as he failed to score on a penalty shot and multiple breakaways.
  4. Pretty incredible Master's win for Tiger
  5. Hayes has been invisible so far against St Louis in the playoffs. Winnipeg not getting much from him.
  6. http://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/26480101/2019-nhl-playoffs-first-round-stanley-cup-conn-smythe-picks picks For SCF, most have Lightning in East, few Bruins, one Hurricanes In West, Sharks, Preds, Knights, Flames, one Blues For champion, most have Lightning I don't know how y'all did fancy bracket share, but I've got Flames over Bruins in SCF
  7. https://www.oddsshark.com/nhl/nhl-playoffs-stanley-cup-series-prices for first round series Leafs +140 Jets even Flames -200 So only Flames are favored to get out of first round
  8. Top three pick would help the rebuilding effort quickly. Find out tonight
  9. Can't argue with the talent and the regular season production. Panarin has to be a key cog and performer in the playoffs to justify a long-term deal 'speeding up the rebuild'. Otherwise, he would eat up valuable cap space and delay the Rangers returning to playoff relevancy (capable of deep runs). I like players with grit for the playoffs, but skill and speed are important in team composition as well.
  10. NYR no. 6 https://www.nhl.com/standings/2018/league Time to root for the ping pong balls http://www.tankathon.com/nhl
  11. Shestyorkin hasn't played any NHL games, so we have no data. We have NHL data on Lundqvist and Georgiev. I need at least 30 NHL games on a goalie before I can have an educated opinion about how he will do in the NHL. Sure it's exciting and provocative to speculate. But even players with the "can't miss" tag can fail spectacularly. Georgiev is the only goalie currently with the Rangers that we have NHL data for that could be with the franchise the next time we are a Stanley Cup playoff threat (3+ years down the road). If you think this team can compete for a Stanley Cup in the next year or two, having Lundqvist at his best should be a priority.
  12. We only need about 10 colors (red, orange, blue, green, yellow, purple, black, white, gray) Light red vs dark red. I don't need to know what fuchia or puce or coral is. I can say something is puke green, or banana yellow, or monkey-feces brown, and you get the idea.
  13. California should split in half... a northern California and a southern California. I love San Francisco, Yosemite, Monterrey. LA and environs are completely different. Draw the line somewhere between Fresno (north) and Bakersfield (south) around Visalia due East-West.
  14. thanks for clarification... i think 3 goalies in training camp, see how it works out, i imagine front office will try to avoid by reducing to two. opinions likely will vary which 2 to keep
  15. Any reason why we don't let him play another year in the KHL... I'm not familiar with his contract.
  16. I can't see the Rangers goalie situation as a meritocracy. Roster composition is affected by development path of young players, and which players are eligible to be in the minors. https://www.nhl.com/flyers/news/who-can-play-where-and-why/c-889461 If you look at Georgiev's game log (last 20 games), he has 6 games with more that 3 goals (my rationale for checking - if you give up 3 goals or less, your team has a better chance to win). https://www.nhl.com/player/alexandar-georgiev-8480382?stats=gamelogs-r-nhl&season=20182019 Lundqvist's game log (last 20 games), has 6 games with more that 3 goals https://www.nhl.com/player/henrik-lundqvist-8468685?stats=gamelogs-r-nhl&season=20182019 But given Lundqvist's history with the Rangers and his contract, if he's on the roster, he's one of your two goalies the next two years. For me, Georgiev has shown enough this year that he's earned a right to play 20-40 NHL games next year, depending on the relative performance of Lundqvist and Georgiev as the season goes on. When Georgiev is on, he's been spectacular. But he does have those 6 clunkers in his last 20 games, which are a combination of poor play by G, poor play by the skaters in front of him, and a need for more NHL starts to develop consistency - and the eye of the beholder would determine what percentage you would give to each of these reasons for the clunkers. I don't think that when Shesterkin appears on the Rangers roster is going to be determined by when he has 'earned' the right to be there. I think the front office is going to gauge when it is expedient based on his unique situation, how the Rangers are performing in the standings, and contract considerations for all goalies involved.
  17. Time to start rooting for pingpong balls https://www.nhl.com/news/nhl-draft-lottery-to-be-held-april-9/c-305753726 https://www.draftsite.com/nhl/rules/ Even better, a site named 'tankathon' with 'Draft order on this site is based on points-per-game rather than total points.' http://www.tankathon.com/nhl I support any site clever enough to name itself 'tankathon' and you can click the 'sim lottery' button enough times to give the Rangers the Jack Hughes pick!
  18. Looks to me like Canada's best hopes are in the Western Conference, either the Jets or Flames. Leafs would likely have to go through Bruins, Lightning, and metro champ just to make SCF, Canadiens are scrambling just to get in. No clear favorite out West, but either Jets or Flames would benefit if the Lightning were knocked out.
  19. Pete, c'mon you know I read entire posts, I just highlight a sentence for emphasis:D I'm looking for a legitimate top two lines and top two defensemen pairings. I'm in the fatfranchesca camp. We're finally getting out from under some long-term contracts (Lundqvist, Staal, Girardi etc) Over next two years we can start to remake this roster. I don't want us to start handing out 7-8 year contracts and no-move clauses for vets. That path has failed us for many years. I want a scouting department to acquire talented players when they are young and cheap. I want a minor league system that develops players. I want a franchise at the NHL level with a system and culture devoted to winning multiple cups. I want a whole-scale makeover of the Rangers franchise so we can be looked at as a model franchise and have a modern dynasty (like Chicago, Pittsburgh, NJ, Detroit runs... days of Edmonton-Islander-Canadien type dynasties are probably done). I don't want the goal to be one cup. I want a run that gets us at least 2-3 Cups. That requires the Rangers franchise to change how they think, plan, and manage rosters.
  20. Friedman: ‘I wonder about the Rangers and Karlsson’ “I think you guys are looking to upgrade,” began Friedman. “Like right away upgrade,” clarified Marek. “Yes,” replied Friedman. “Panarin.” “We’ve got Zibanejad, we’ve got Lundqvist, boom,” said Marek. “One of the more interesting stories now is going to be Erik Karlsson,” continued Friedman. “And we’ll see where he is health-wise when he comes back. Doesn’t sound like he’s going to be back much before the playoffs, if then. “You know, I wonder if he could become a Ranger target. When he’s played this year, he’s been dynamite. You’re wondering about the injuries and I think he’s doing the best thing he can, is sitting out until he gets healthy - don’t risk it. But I wonder about the Rangers and Karlsson, how interested they’re going to be. I could see him loving playing there.” “Everybody does,” whispered Marek. “Yes,” agreed Friedman. “Everybody loves that city,” noted Marek. “What’s not to love about it.” ------------------------------- This is what I'm worried about. Panarin, Karlsson, Lundqvist in goal, eff the rebuild. Let's be a middle of the pack playoff team right away, our young players can learn from vets, we can win a Stanley Cup in two years! That is the New York Rangers way. We brought in the Oiler-Rangers to get us 1994. We came close in the SCF against the Kings. We are New York. We don't have to wait. Ignore our track record from 1940 to present.
  21. Look at our top six forwards, and top two defenseman pairings. How many of those names would you associate with a top first or second line on a Stanley Cup champion? Then ask yourself how many years is it going to take to accumulate that kind of talent in those ten roster spots. Probably more than a year or two. OK, Panarin would be one piece. Is he still viable when we are ready to contend?
  22. why are we trying to solve ailments for next season, or the season after that? another season of sucking helps us, although it is rough on the fans
  23. For 7-8 years and a no-move clause, still a gamble that Panarin is good in the playoffs and fits whatever our team philosophy is 3+ years down the road when we are trying to win a Cup. 'Development' should mostly take place in the minors, at NHL level Rangers are going to rack up the losses next year as well unless management abandons a rebuild. Rangers are years away from being a Stanley Cup contender. Doing the rebuild right means the product on the ice is going to be hard to watch sometimes. Adding a pricy winger (Panarin) doesn't help this team's issues at center or defense or aging no. 1 goaltender.
  24. They need to move on from Eli but don't seem willing because of the two Super Bowl titles. The SB titles plus 'Manning' on his jersey distract from how average/mediocre he currently is.
