  1. Calgary is a team you would like to see miss the playoffs if you’re a number 1 seed. Solid goalie, structure, physical play. There are easier matchups out there.
  2. Scoreless largely because of Markstrom and our power play wasn’t very good.
  3. Tocchet, Tortorella, Brind'Amour, Sullivan have sat a star or seriously reduced TOI. Cooper, Bednar, Cassidy could but largely don't because it isn't in their style. Laviolette has been around long enough that he could but largely chooses not to because of style.
  4. The more direct response would be a healthy scratch for one or both (Kreider, Zib) or reduced TOI. If you split them up you are potentially creating an issue with multiple lines at even strength regarding their effort rather than isolating the problems to a single line. As specialists you can pair them on PK or include them on the same PP unit, or include them in the last minute of game in defensive zone with one goal lead, or as needed without them being on the same line for most of the game.

Tyler Pitlick In the last 3 games, Cuylle is averaging about 11 minutes TOI, with an assist, plus/minus of zero, and 4 shots. Which is fine. He's making hits, and playing fine, but not worth being in the top ten. https://www.naturalstattrick.com/playerteams.php?fromseason=20232024&thruseason=20232024&stype=2&sit=all&score=all&stdoi=std&rate=n&team=NYR&pos=S&loc=B&toi=0&gpfilt=gpdate&fd=2024-02-01&td=2024-02-11&tgp=410&lines=single&draftteam=ALL
  6. There's lots of reasons for being against acquisition of veteran player X (not to focus on Kane) at trade deadline, so people could have been against acquiring for various reasons: 1. Is there enough time for player X to learn the system, for the coach to find the right line, and for player X to mesh with line mates? 2. Is player X a good fit for team Y culture; is player X going to be a positive in the locker room, or does player X bring baggage that is going to be a distraction? 3. How much does player X have in the tank, that team Z was going to let him go as a rental; was player X a 5+ year player with team Z and loved being with team Z; will player X bring the same kind of effort to team Y as did for team Z. 4. Is player X killing time until free agency and finding the best offer, or will player X be an asset in the playoffs? 5. Is player X hurt; how close to career peak/plateau is player X; are you acquiring player X based on reputation/performance 2-5 years ago, and hoping that player X can perform close to that level? 6. What are you giving up in order to acquire player X; are you setting back the franchise's future by trading draft picks/young players, and is the cost not worth the potential reward? 7. How much are your odds improving for a deep playoff run/cup for what you are giving up, given the rest of the roster? Some reasons for acquisition of player X. 1. There is a glaring hole in the roster (injuries, unexpected subpar performance from one or more players, or poor roster construction by GM) that will keep team Y from anything more than a puncher's chance at a deep playoff run, with player X expected to fill the hole () and dramatically improve the team's odds at a deep playoff run. 2. There is an aging core of veterans that have a limited 1-2 year window for a deep playoff run, and the GM is going to maximize the team's chances for a deep playoff run/Cup. 3. GM job is on the line and failure to make the playoffs or a deep playoff run will result in being fired, so GM is going to maximize the team's chances for a deep playoff run/Cup. 4. Lineup is stale and underperforming, and roster turnover is needed as a wake-up call. 5. Coach or key franchise player really likes X from previous interaction and advocates for getting player X.
  7. Wrigley is a bucket list location for baseball fans to watch a game, from broadcast I know Chelios played a game at Wrigley so not the first time at Wrigley, but still cool.
  8. chicago just kept working and earned chances in the last ten minutes of the third while the Rangers coasted. Have to play extra time to try and get 2 points when the rangers should have put the game out of reach.
  9. happy with the score, but Rangers aren’t at their best. Probably should be more than a 2 goal lead and chicago is a fluke goal away from making this a game
  10. Can we just give the third and fourth lines more TOI? The top 2 lines are playing with practice intensity. At least give TOI to players that are actually playing hard.
  11. not a dig at you but a dig at kreider… this feels like the twentieth GDT in a row where someone has written this.
  12. pretty understated goal celebration. the upside to missing Bedard and the other issues with the Hawks is they may get the number one draft pick again.
  13. one of those games where we are failing to convert chances and let an ‘inferior’ team hang around, and fans sweat. cue too many men penalty.
  14. Red wings-avalanche back in the day was awesome because you could get goalie fights. good times.
  15. ‘Rangers moving the puck really well…and unfortunately haven’t converted on the power play’. BSBH translation - ‘ pass, pass, pass, PASS’ I don’t get a response when I talk to the TV… other than weird looks from other people.
  16. I expect to see Shesterkin moping on the bench due to recent performance - Quick's stellar play and Igor's inconsistent play. It is better for the team in the short-term to ride the Quick hot streak. But unless Quick is your starter for round 1 of the playoffs (crazy talk, but not as crazy as day 1 of the regular season) the question is how you get Shesterkin to be at least a .920 goalie... instead of a .900 goalie. There's only so much a goalie coach can do... at some point Igor has got to block some shots in a game.

Tyler Pitlick 2 big goals against the Lightning and a catalyst in the offensive zone.
