One guy has their playoff career behind them and the other has their playoff career in front of them. There's no point in even comparing. That said, there might be some situations where it behooves the team to dress Wheeler. There are some teams that might be heavier versus faster, you might want that big body in there. But they are two different players, and the fact of the matter is that Roslovic pushes the pace of play and is way more dynamic than Wheeler. Wheeler is safe and reliable but doesn't plus up the team at all. He doesn't help you and barely hurts you.

Well, apparently they didn't know what they had to do. So they all did their own thing. That's what happens when the coach doesn't talk to the players. That's what happens when the Coach doesn't run the practice. Yes Panarin and decided he needed to change his game, but he's not doing anything Gallant told him to do. Because all Gallant was telling him was to get pucks deep. This is one of the most affable guys on the team and he won't even discuss the previous coach. That, to me, says a lot.

I Don't really know how much credit he should get. He didn't change any of the lines that Quinn already had any basically just hold the players to go at and play with no plan other than "get pucks deep". Like @siddioussaid, they didn't win because of him, they won despite him. And frankly, they probably would have been better if he wasn't stifling their creativity and not letting the lines have any continuity. We have a ton of evidence on record that this dude was absentee.

It's about the way they lost, it's about the lack of adjustments, and it's about everything else that came out after Gallant was let go. Jesus Christ, he wasn't even talking to the team on game days! Yes, and the reason they didn't play well was... Lack of coaching. Look, if coaching wasn't important these guys wouldn't be making upwards of 5 million a year. They're not glorified cheerleaders out there, there needs to be a plan and an approach. There are obvious differences this season to last. Everybody sees it. The only folks who don't are the ones who have their faces buried in spreadsheets.

Every team needs their best players to perform in order to move through the playoffs. This is not specific to the Rangers.

Gallant never got this Lafreniere by his own hand. He stifled creativity, didn't establish roles or in still confidence, and didn't allow continuity. Those are the biggest external factors to Lafreniere's play. The rest was the work Laf put in to improve his skating. What's the agenda? To show the Gallant wasn't a good coach? That's been established. There's no more debate about that. Or at least there shouldn't be, there's no lack of evidence. If anything there's an agenda to defend him, I'm just not sure why.
