No.  GG played Zib and CK apart for over 300 minutes at 5v5 and Trocheck with so.e combe of CK, Goodrow, Vesey for 200 minutes.

Panarin-Trocheck-Laf were together for 866 minutes.  He literally never touched that line.  GG would have shuffled Laf around during a 3 goal in 31 game slump.

OK so they were together for a majority of the time. Let's say almost 3/4?  Tro was away from Panarin for like 1/6 of last season You're splitting hairs here. These players were together for very long periods of time.  That's the gist of what I'm saying.

That 20/93 combination is an ongoing thing for atleast 3 straight seasons. Sure. It was broken up here and there. It's back again and it is always back again.

Yes, GG would have moved Lafrenière off that line in a slump. Most coaches would. I don't think this is a bad thing. That's some slump. As was Miller's major slump.  Any coach would make a change there. I don't know why this is exclusive to GG.

I'll agree all day that GG had a short leash with kids. But let's not forget that he DID give Lafrenière chances. Lafrenière played RW in the top 6, last season too. I don't remember if it was with Panarin or Zibanejad. I believe it was Panarin.

GG tried Kakko with Panarin. Chytil with Panarin. Chytil was getting more and more opportunities as time went on and trust was earned.

Why is it left out that he gave Miller a top 4 job and got the best production out of him?  Gave Schneider the spot over Nemeth,  Hajek and others. Played Jones more than Laviolette did?

I'm not sure what any other coach would do with these players besides give them more rope.

GGs bigger issue was barely any practice and not giving the team a system to fall back on. That's where GG failed along with not being able to make adjustments to the gameplan.

GG did a lot wrong. I wouldn't say line shuffling (to break players skids) was his worst trait.  His patience in keeping said switch was a problem.

It's been a pattern with whomever the coach is. It's typically just a rotation of top 6 RWs, and a spot to plant the kids that weren't taking those RW spots until one did. And here we are. Still needing a RW or 2 if you're not sold on Kakko.

The Rangers shuffled RW 1 and the entire 3rd and 4th lines this year. It has to be done if it's not working. I'm not even sold that this current incarnation of line 3 is even any good.

  2. What a boring watch,  with a bunch of safe talk. Was hoping for a lot of trash talking and hate thrown around.

They didn't discuss the time Scott Stevens was offer sheeted. They didn't talk enough about the Rangers situation with Messier.  The Harrison Ford stuff was just stupid.

    Congrats ESPN. You sucked again.

  3. Just a little complaint about one of the knocks on GG. The talk about shuffling the lines and no continuity.

Has Kreider not been stapled to Zibanejad for years?

Was Strome not with Panarin  95% of his stay here? Trocheck too?

    Kid line?

The D pairings were the exact same pairings up until 2 weeks ago.

Sure GG would shuffle RWs and the 3rd/kid line. But that's kinda because they had little to insert at RW. Dryden Hunt? Kravtsov? Kakko? Blais?

Then when given an extra piece that threw off any balance (Kane) and had the core waiting for their savior to do everything,  they died.

I hope one day, we get to hear what Drury and Gallant were arguing about in game.

    at Ping Pong, maybe  😉

I mean,  have you seen the comparison in playoff production?  Wheeler has good numbers (45 points in 65 games).  Roslovic. Not so much. Like at all. As in no goals 5 assists in 20 games.

    maybe a bit rough

I dont think we should be counting on him to play meaningful minutes though. Maybe someone can prove me wrong with metrics or something but I don't feel like he's a defensively responsible player and outside of physical play, he's not someone I would rely on for any meaningful minutes. Playoffs you gotta be able to trust all 4 lines and have them play a lot. a roster spot on a guy who might get 4-5 minutes of ice time is not something we should be relying on

But if it's not him getting 4-5-8 minutes, it's going to be Brodzinski.

Meaning,  who ever it is on that RW, is going to get very little icetime.

Much like the RW on the Zibanejad line. All season, who ever is there is only getting 12-14 minutes a night and it was because that slot isn't getting PP minutes or PK.

People tried to shit on Wheeler saying he could only be trusted with 12 minutes, but couldn't understand that he was playing in a role/spot that couldn't really get more ice unless they can do special teams.

That spot on the roster isn't going to get more ice, unless they PK or play on the PP.

Just like the 3rd forward on line 4 isn't going to get more than 8-10. Vesey and Goodrow get a majority of the icetime as PKers and they're in the 12 minutes range.

Sucks that MSG doesn't have coverage for round one. Moreso because I do not have TNT with Fubotv. Lame.

Fubo stinks now. They have dumped SNY. So the thing that was to mainly be a sports platform for streaming,  no longer carries essential networks for sports.  But thank god they have music channels and no name sports networks that air fishing  and bullshit.

I do think Rempe will get some games in in the first round just in case WIlson decides to be WIlson

beyond that though, I cant see him getting any time. As entertaining as he's been, lets not delude ourselves into thinking he's a good hockey player. MAYBE if the isles get past Carolina he gets in but beyond that, I don't see any reason he should be counted on for anything in a playoff game.

If we get to the ECF and play Florida, who will definitely play physical and borderline dirty, our PP has to be the deterrent, not Rempe

That's a bit rough. He's no worse of a hockey player than any typical 4th liner. He can play center, he can stand infront of the net, he can play hard hitting hockey within the rules.

Players like him are guys that can flourish in the playoffs. Guys like Corey Perry have been excellent playoff performers in the post season. Just because he's not a skill guy, doesn't mean he's not good at hockey. He's good at what he's currently doing and he wants to do more. He could be a flash in the pan player who never has this momentum again. Lets ride this momentum and see how far it goes.

Let's be real. Between Rempe, Roslovic and Brodzinski, I think the fit for playoff hockey is more in Rempes game than the others. As long as he doesn't play stupid, I go with Rempe until the wheels fall off.

    Agree with this

Though that likely results in Washington taking penalties and if they do that, the Rangers will kill them.

    Even matching minors hurts them.

You'd think it would result in penalties.  It doesn't seem to matter  when it's the Rangers and  the playoffs.  Retaliation penalties seem to be what refs like to call. So, maybe the plan should be to hit them first.  Set the pace.  Let them react.

  9. Washington knows how to push the Rangers buttons. Wilson, Dowdy, Ovechkin and Oshie will be walking the line and hitting everyone in sight. Heck, they dressed Mcllrath in their last game (he owned Rempe in the A).. They can and will play ragged and go over the line. If the Rangers can play through that, it's a piece of cake. I think they can .

With that said, Zibanejad and Panarin really need to play with their heads up and eyes on the back of their heads, but also take it to them and act like they like it. Don't back down. Don't let old men Oshie and Ovie knock you down a peg.

The coach they needed at the time had literally one job - develop the kids, don't alienate the veterans.

By the year 1.5 mark, he'd stagnated Lafreniere, he'd stagnated Kakko, he'd stagnated Miller, he had Schneider swimming underwater, and he'd stagnated Chytil. By the end of that year, he had Kreider looking like someone shot his dog, Mika looking more vacant than usual, made Trocheck look awful, and had Panarin convinced he had demons living in his hair.

    I just don't think that's a good 22 months.

Meh. Miller had a 40 point season last year, Kakko and Chytil had their best seasons. Schneider was a rookie and looked absolutely fantastic, earning the job over 2 vets... GG had Kreider at 50 goals the year prior and had Panarin playing great with Ryan Strome that year as well.

I think a lot of the anti GG stuff is a bit exaggerated. He lost the room. He always loses the room. He's definitely not youth friendly with forwards, but he rolled with a very young D in Fox,  Lindgren, Miller and Schneider.

Let's not seriously disparage 2- 100 point seasons as if that can be done with anyone behind the bench. He did good enough for his time here, for how he coaches.

Laviolette is just head and shoulders a better coach than GG and it shows in the product on the ice.
