Not looking forward to the Rangers playing on experimental ice at the Delta Center for a couple of seasons.

The NHL's #1 consideration for moves and expansions should be that a state of the art hockey arena is available at the new location.

Arizona is moving at least partly because this was not a consideration when the 'Yotes got the franchise.

Salt Lake City is the frontrunner for the 2030 Winter Olympics, which would come with a significant renovation to the arena they built for the 2002 Olympics or a brand new arena as the single highest priority. The host city decision will be made in late July.

I don’t know why we’re treating this area like it’s been some type of hockey hot bed. So the Coyotes relocate and then a new team goes there as expansion? It has never worked there. Since Day 1. It’s a shame. But it just hasn’t worked. Why are we pushing this?

Also, FWIW, just read that Coyotes players have apparently been told about a move to Utah. So again, this seems to be fairly far down the road.

Because they've never been properly supported by Phoenix and a market with 5 million people - largely northern transplants - with a GDP of nearly half a trillion dollars and one of the top 10 tv markets in the USA is wildly attractive. It's too big an opportunity to be worried about a few million dollars here and there for the NHL.

In the scenario above, the Muerelo group would sell the team to Ryan Smith for more than twice the value of the franchise, and then Muerelo would pay a nearly billion dollar expansion fee to REJOIN the league.

    Follow the cash, my dude.

The Dobson hit should have provided enough fodder for that.

And I'm not even talking about what Laviolette said. That's obvious posturing.

I'm commenting on what happened on the ice.

Completely intentional on Trocheck, malicious and intentional on Zibanejad. The first is indisputable, the second is because the Islanders have mastered the art of seeing out of the backs of their heads and are threatened by the deep human connection Mika shares with his teammates.

It's a really good, honest write up. Here's some excerpts.

Kelly certainly knows what he's talking about. You absolutely cannot write off any team with some of the talent, and opportunistic scoring/goaltending that the Rangers are capable of. With that said, they are clearly behind the 8 ball in their approach to the game, relying primarily on getting bounces and luck at the right time.

Even for you, Brooksie, woof. The cherry-pickers union genuflects to you alone.

On a related note, some farmers are very angry.

Doesn't matter. What they do in the playoffs matters.

Team blew 2-0 series leads 2 years running. It's hard to do statistically, 2 years back to back, fosters doubt. Could blame Gallant for not having a plan, but again, details. It's why they're getting no respect right now. Gallant what ever his failings wasn't on ice for that, these core guys were.

Last night, even against a weak sister, was very positive. Didn't get frustrated by a young goalie styming them for 30 minutes, and then their big guns did the job. Panarin is a beast, Laffy is a player, Troceck a great season, Kreider and Mika appear to be waking up; all good. Like to think the Devils series last May plays out very differently with Laviolette, but that's hopeful speculation. Do know when they get a lead this season they go 1-3-1 alot, even if it's not 100% foolproof.

Larry Brooks and everyone elese  can write articles all day celebrating crybaby Crosby and badmouthing Ovechkin. It's details that don't matter .

16 wins. Starting in about 2 weeks throught summer. That's it.

I think the difference a coach makes is absolutely screaming at us at this point. And let me tell ya, this crow? Fantastic. I was a straight-up detractor of the Laviolette hire, and man, he deserves so much credit for the work he did this year. He helped unlock beast-mode Panarin, he figured out Lafreniere, he seamlessly integrated multiple rookies and new faces (like, we haven't even talked about Will Cuylle's extraordinary rookie year!), he's got the bottom 6 working well, he's even starting to help Kakko crack the code. And the things you're listing - the not getting frustrated by a hot goalie, the blown series leads, the structure? That's coaching, mate.

I’ve beaten Pittsburgh up verbally here for months. And rightfully so. The only reason they’re alive right now is because you have 4 crappy teams that are all fighting for 2 spots and no one can grab the bull by the horns for it. One hot streak is all it took to bring them back into the picture. In an ideal world, Toronto beats them tonight and takes some of the wind out of their sails. They have a tough schedule to close things out and it would be nice to see them out of the picture completely.

Caps, Detroit, Islanders, Flyers. The Rangers should, and I think would, make relatively quick work of those 4. I’d prefer to avoid the pageantry that would come with the spectacle of a series with the Islanders. But honestly? Wouldn’t effect too much because I think the Rangers should pound that team too.

It's why this week is going to be so goddamn important for us. We have three games against potential round 1 opponents who will be fighting for their lives.

    Send a message. Bury them.

  7. I think it's actually really simple. We're not news-worth right now. We've been in the playoffs since St Patricks Day, and the WC2 in the East is a war. Same for the Central.

The Rangers win again is a ho-hum story that's been told 53 times and counting. We'll be briefly newsworthy later this week when we set the franchise win record, then clinch the division, conference, and Presidents Trophy, and then it's going to be a wave of stories about how we're going to be a hard out for anyone.

You know he has more in the tank, G.  We've watched this guy his whole career, and I remember the days when he would run goalies and play like an escaped murderer on parole!

I expect him to take his game to another level, and you could probably add Trouba in with him.  These "veteran" players should have a good handle on when to turn on the afterburners.

But yeah, the whole..."Oh by the way, here's another 40 goals, and I'm not even trying yet!"  LOL

I expect Kreider's going to leave a trail of broken bones and classical piano riffs in the playoffs.

In theory that's all fine, I have no problem with that either, the problem is that no team is winning a cup with mostly one line producing all the ES goals, it's just not sustainable in the playoffs. "0.8 p/pg Selke-level 2C" sounds great, but when you dig a bit deeper the numbers are more concering than that, primarily his struggles at scoring 5v5, which affects the entire line since Kreider is no playmaker and Drury decided to not go for a game-changer and just get another passanger on that line.

I might sound overly pessimistic here, I'm not. I believe in Zib and I really think he'll get it done in the playoffs, but he needs to be better than he has for the past 70 games and that's just a fact.

I'm not ready to Nash-ify Zibanejad just yet. He's good enough to produce offense without sacrificing the defensive side of the game, so I'm not gonna be okay with him performing below expected offensively just because he's a solid two-way forward.

I mean, he and Trouba's elbow one-and-a-half handedly beat the Penguins a few years ago. No sense in Nashing him.

Push to shove, I'd say this: I'm not really sure how useful our priors will be. Panarin has never played on a team like this one, and he's literally never played this well. Zibanejad has not been on a team where he wasn't shouldering the entire center load in almost 6 years. The last time Kreider played games with this level of expectation on the team was 2015.

I like where all three are right now. Zib and Kreider have more to give offensively - bluntly, so does the Wennberg line - and that is a good thing when other teams will absolutely have to over-key on Panarin and Lafreniere.
