FYI the US TV contract is up this season. If they don't play at all you might see a similar situation in 2005 where national games are played on some "unknown" network like OLN.

Rangers should offer Strome no more than 5 mil. If he thinks he can get 5.7 somewhere else, God bless him. JD says we have a long ways to go, so if we lose him we won't be any closer to a Cup anyways.

If I'm the Rangers, taking escrow into consideration, I'm giving Strome 5 mil CLEAN. That means no signing bonus and whatnot. Lemieux 2 mil, also no signing bonus and whatnot.

I believe actual money they have to spend would be current cap space ($10,879,367) - the bonus cushion penalty ($3,950,000) = $6,929,367

 

So in order to fit them both the arb awards would have to be more like max 1.75 for Lemieux and 4.75 for Strome.

 

According to CapFriendly NYR have 14.4 mil current cap space but 10.8 actual cap space. If you crunch the numbers even further, it's closer to 10.5 mil actual cap space.

What I would do is start the season day after the Super Bowl. Then people have something to watch until MLB opening day. I see no reason why teams can't have their home games at the local arena as long as they take the proper precautions.

Based on AG's performance the last 2 years, I have no problem with this. Very fair deal. 2.5 AAV might be much but overall no complaints.
