Rangers did finish 20 points out of a playoff spot.. with a roster built for a tank. Carolina missed by 14 points last year and made it to the ECF.. Not optimal, but every year there are a few teams who make a big leap.

Living in Charlotte I get to see the Checkers in the AHL, they have been fun to watch this year, quality play and a killer pipeline for Carolina .. I hope the Rangers dearth of draft picks leads to a real honest to God farm system.. It would be nice for a call up to be a prospect rather than a AAAA level player

The ebbs and flows of emotion that night were insane... Anyone else have the nightmare the Gordie Clark has them convinced Vasili Podkolzin is really the best player in the draft.. I keep picturing the movie Draft Day in my nightmare... Then I wake up in a cold sweat and need to call a professional to talk it out.

Answering the OP Question.... No one (of substance/term/high annual value) Panarin is the linchpin to the 'plan'- if that plan is to move your chips into the pot.. if not him you don't shudder the rebuild for a guy like Duchene.. Definitely not Karlsson- his injury history is really scary when you are looking at the AAV he's going to command.... Get Bread and trade for Trouba.. or just keep acquiring pieces.
