  1. I did the 2-3 weeks things before and said "never again", next relationship I end up in a 2-3 months situation. You can't make it up. :)
  2. Thanks man. Repped you too. Things are different for her and me though. We are very much in love, but how well do you know someone after 1 or 2 years if you mainly talk on Skype and all the weeks you spend together feel like vacation? We want to make sure we are ready for a common future, besides what our feelings tell us. It's a split between acting now and being smart.
  3. Haha, I know. It's... still early I guess. For a lot of people, including myself, 4 months is not a point in a relationship where you should have to make big decisions and be saying that everything is immediately working out as it should, but the situation (distance, her (sports) career, my college future and career) is kind of forcing us to go big, or go home. If we don't believe in a future together, we shouldn't try and we are realistic enough to talk about that. However, those conversations have led us to believing we can get through this and we have what it takes to make this happen. And hey, if not, it was probably one hell of an adventure. So far it is and, except for the parts where I miss her very much, I'm loving every second of it.
  4. Officially just 4 months, haha, why? :) However, we have met early September and have spend a lot of time together. I realize that for a lot of people, that is a very short time to make big future decisions and to be as certain as I am right now, but I've been there, done that for a big part when it comes to dating and she is - honestly - everything I ever dreamed of in a girl. And also, if both her and I wouldn't be this certain about this relationship, we would not do what we do now. Travel back and forth, plan a lot of time together. It's too expensive (just the plane ticket is around $750) and too big of a challenge (2 months talking on Skype sucked, 3,5 months... ugh) to "just try" and we waited with telling each other, our friends and family about our feelings ... until we were so very very certain that it was worth the effort.
  5. True, and with what has been said and done this last week the prize is bigger than July 5th or any nearby future. I have to get there alone and work hard, but in 10 years from now I just want to know it was all worth it. And she really is. I actually have plenty of school assignments to do before tomorrow evening, so I might just start with that. ;)
  6. So far, this is the slowest Sunday I remember in a long time.
  7. And as I'm typing assignments it hits me. I said goodbye to her this morning and will not hold her again until July 5th... oh man. :(
  8. I needz thread to celebrate. Birthday time! Whoooop!
  9. Ah, finally. AA88, Chicago-Brussels, just departed, "en route and on-time" according to flightstats.com. That's what I wanted to know before heading to bed tonight. Good night everyone, talk to you tomorrow.
  10. Well, I have a bi-headache now. Does that count?
  11. I want to feel great when I see her, not... have the frickin' flu. Blegh, this sucks. Such a busy week ahead too.
  12. Good day everyone. Ugh, I feel terrible today. Nose running, ears hurt, headache... not now, please, not now.
  13. You're right. And I will, or well, I hope I will. I hate having to plan the simplest things, like a phone call, because of the time difference and everything. Dinner time for her is 2AM for me, that's just crap. I do believe we'll get there, this relationship feels right... so, we're gonna fight for it. G'night!
  14. Haha, thanks man. It's not easy, she's in America, I'm here. I want to move to the US asap, but need to get my degrees here first and that's another 2 years. Until than, it'll be a lot of travelling back and forth between exam weeks, around holidays and whenever we have the time. Thankfully I live near several good airports and tickets are .. well, not cheap, but we can manage it. Anyway, good night everyone, I'm heading to bed... kill another few hours until she's here. :)
  15. Yeah, she's flying over for around 10 days to be here with my birthday and such. It's been a long 2 months, and it'll probably 3,5 very long months until our next chance to see each other again, but right now... I'm convinced it's worth the wait. She's amazing. And yes, Erik, I'm very much in love. Like, to the point where it's even annoying myself. :D
  16. Just Skyped with my girlfriend and after I ended the call, I realized that the next time I hear her voice... she's actually here, in about 40 hours from now. Hell yes, what a good feeling that is, these 2 months have been torture.
  17. Oh, alright. Well, house hunting should be fun, but is more fun in good weather obviously. Already looking forward to the day I can seriously go house hunting with a nice bag of money, haha. Yes, Mardi Gras is based of the European (Catholic) tradition of Carnaval. It's the celebration 6 weeks prior to Easter to kick of the period of Lent. People dress up in funny costumes and party for 3 straight days in the streets before they retreat for 6 long weeks. I'm not a Catholic, not even religious, but the tradition is still big around here and not just because of drinking and partying, but because it's only in this part of the Netherlands and not "above the rivers". We have our own Mason-Dixon line thing here. Above the rivers are the big cities (Rotterdam, Amsterdam, The Hague, etc.) and people are very harsh, direct and are mostly protestants. Below the rivers the people are a bit more bourgondic, we have the French vibe in what we do and are more people of the "good life", and majority is Catholic. Oh, and we speak Dutch with an awful accent and we know it. Carnaval here is a southern thing and we are DAMN proud of it. I mean, Dutch is my second language. My first language will always be Limburgish, a regional language spoken in dozens of variaties by about 2 million people in eastern Belgium, south-eastern The Netherlands and the west tip of Germany. That's how deep this goes. I'm from Limburg first, from Europe second... and maybe The Netherlands third. I'm not a stereotypical Dutchman in any way or form, I'm the complete opposite. Only in sport I truly take pride in being Dutch, that's it.
  18. Ouch, what's up man? Good luck, feel better. A strange day here. My favorite celebration of the year is today, and I'm not going. Too busy with school, too much fun stuff planned for next weekend and the week after. I have to make decisions, but oh man, does it sting that I'm not out there for Carnaval/Mardi Gras.
  19. Just chillin', busy with school, gf arrives in The Netherlands again next week... looking forward to that. How are you man?
  20. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gK5v0zBEVWE ...and we will all go down together! :D
