  1. Precursor to Eichel deal? Don't like giving up a budding possible 30g scorer
  2. Vince Z. Mercogliano @vzmercogliano Belief is Drury won't budge on adding certain players to Eichel deal, so it appears #Sabres working to squeeze other teams (presumably MIN/ANA/LA) for players they prefer over #NYR package. Very fluid situation, but sounds like a game of chicken. I don't sense Drury will blink. 3:24 PM · Jul 23, 2021
  3. from the Dreger interview with WGR Buffalo in regards to the Rangers: “This is a tough market to nail down. A good New York Rangers source, yesterday, thought that there is a slim chance that it was going to work with the Rangers. That is not to say it’s not going to be the New York Rangers, but again, that is where the process was yesterday and all that can change pretty swiftly with a phone call.” Dreger continued, “but if you are looking at a four piece package from the Rangers, I had a package thrown at me that included Lundkvist or Schneider, Kravtsov, Chytil and a first round pick. I mean there is four elements and I threw that by the Rangers and they basically laughed, as if that is too much. Is it? It might be, from New York’s standpoint, but is it too much from Buffalo’s standpoint to ask for that.” Marty Biron said that he thought that that package would be a “bad return” for Eichel, from a Sabres point of view. Dreger added, “you don’t think that Rangers package is even close to what Buffalo would need, well the Rangers are likely looking at is too much and ‘we’re not paying that.” Whats so whack about this is if any of this is true , they are acting like Eichel is 100% healthy and not an injury risk moving forward . If thats the case, why in the world won't you share his medicals? Really, really strange stuff here.
  4. Kind of a very streaky, inconsistent player to me. That cap money can be used elsewhere. Granted we'd lose a bit of grittiness though.
  5. Buch/Georgiev/then prospect on the farm. That should be plenty enough to get it done. Also helps us with not having to expose an extra guy in the expansion draft. Sounds like a better alternative to Eichel really.
  6. Heard some unsubstantiated rumor of Buchnevich for Horvat. Anyone else hear anything on this?
  7. Sorry I missed it, what is the rumored price in prospects/talent?
  8. If the trade comes with them eating some salary b/c truthfully to give up Mika next offseason for Eichel is likely at best a lateral move.
  9. This is the key here moreso than the quotes. Drury seemed to hint at some restructuring of the team too.
  10. As an assistant bench coach to take over the reigns in a few years could be a very forward thinking move
  11. Mike Zanier @MikeZanier · 14m Hearing from a friend in New York that @VLHlive head coach Sam Hallam with 3 Championships in the last 7 yrs in the SHL might be interviewed for the vacant @NYRangers job

  13. Buddy of mine had this synopsis thought it was pretty good: Gallant - Pros: he did the most with the least. He led the Vegas Golden Knights to the Stanley Cup in their inaugural season and led a somewhat pedestrian Panthers team to the best record in their division in 2015. That team had a nice blend of veterans (they had Jagr and Jussi Jokinen) and youngsters (like Barkov, Ekblad, Trochek and Huberdeau) much like what the Rangers have now. He was a tough-ass player in Detroit and that carries over into coaching philosophy. Cons: he's been fired unceremoniously by two different teams despite his successes. The Panthers literally fired him, kicked him off the bus and made him call his own taxi. There's something there (perhaps an attitude issue?), but I don't think it's ever been concluded what. Tocchet - Pros: led an anemic and a dysfunctional Coyotes organization to be somewhat respectable. I mean it can be said that he squeezed every ounce of talent out of that team. Won two Stanley Cups as an assistant with Pittsburgh and was a hell of a player back in the day for the Penguins and Flyers. Tough and hard-nosed coach, who expects the same out of his players. Cons: in 6 seasons with the Lightning and Coyotes, he only made the postseason once, which amounted to a first round exit. Boudreau - Pros: He has the second-highest winning percentage in NHL history for a coach who has coached at least 900 games. In 12 full seasons behind the bench, Boudreau has made the playoffs 10 times. Cons: In those 10 playoff appearance, he never made the Stanley Cup. Also got on Rangers' fans nerves when he said MSG wasn't that loud. Similar to Gallant, he also has somewhat of a short leash despite his successes. Perhaps he rubs ownership/management the wrong way? Claude Julien - Pros: Been to the Stanley Cup twice with the Bruins. Has a puck-dominant philosophy, which can lead to a lot of offense. Cons: has health concerns. His most recent stint in Montreal was rather unsuccessful, as PJ can attest to. Hasn't been past the first round since 2013. Mike Babcock - Pros: He's been a HC since 2002 and with the exception of two seasons has made the playoffs every single (full) season. His teams are very disciplined. Babcock's teams generally focus on skills and puck possession over physical play and toughness. Been to three Stanley Cups. Cons: many of his players absolutely hate his guts. He can be a real asshole (just ask Mitch Marner). He's essentially a persona non grata. Bob Hartley - Pros: another highly-winning HC. He's a hard-ass and a disciplinarian (could be a con). Think of Tom Coughlin with ice skates. Coached Chris Drury to a Stanley Cup in Colorado in 2000-2001. Cons: His most recent stint with Calgary was a bust. Hasn't coached in the NHL since 2016. Patrick Roy - Pros: HOF goalie. Ex-teammate of Chris Drury. Cons: only made the playoffs once in 3 years coaching the Avalanche (though he won the Jack Adams for best coach). Made A LOT Of questionable coaching decisions. John Tortorella - Pros: winningest American HC in NHL history. Gets the most out of his team. Had a lot of success with the Rangers. Knows New York and the media. Dolan loves him. Uncle Larry hates him. Won the Stanley Cup. Cons: can be very hard on young players. And his reputation precedes him. He can be a prick.
  14. Bring Torts back, a tough minded coach is one of the biggest things this team needs.
  15. From the dailyhorn article Dolan on Torts: I miss John Tortorella. I’d visit Torts before a game and we would trade barbs for 10 minutes, he’d tell me about his [lousy] cable TV service and I’d be sitting there saying, “You can’t clear the puck out of your zone, what the hell’s wrong with you?” and he’d strike back and then play the game and I miss that. I’m developing a relationship with Alain [Vigneault] and he’s also a good guy, but Torts and I had a special relationship. It was fun for me. He banned me from the locker room for a while, all in fun. I miss that.
  16. This would be worse than when the Giants let both Sean Payton and John Fox go while keeping Jim Fassell. The only way this moves makes even a little bit of sense is if Quinn goes too.
  17. -Knoblauch -Gallant -Messier -Roy -Another coach let go from another NHL end of season? -Someone else?
  18. I thought he made a few good points: One thing about DQ's post game pressers that has stood out is that he seems to lack a deeper level of thought and reflection in assessing the team's play. Of course it could be tossed off as Belichikian, but that GOAT has obviously earned the right to do whatever he pleases. In Quinn's case, he's so quick to latch on to a good period of play or a good bounce back game amidst a run of poor games and use it to characterize the imminent upside to come. Yes, he does not want to throw the team under the bus, but it strikes me as robotic, lacking in nuance. That, along with all the changes in line combinations (Knoblach left the lines intact all game long?), the inexplicable switches of GKs seemingly ignoring the hot hands (as it was obvious before the injury Igor was recapturing his rhythm)--because he 'said' he was going to alternate (ergo, he 'had to' stick with his plan), there's a level of communication and feel that seem to be lacking
  19. Small sample size but MAN it looked like the shackles were rmeoved with different coaches behind the bench.
  20. Is Quinn supposed to be out for longer than 1 game?
