  1. I haven't tuned in since the season opener, so I can't comment on his game, but it's been a slow start for Othmann. After coming out hot, he's at 2-7-9 in 15 games. 7 of his 9 points are on the PP and only 4 of his points are primary. Othmann leads Hartford with 48 shots on goal, though, and is shooting just 4.2% so it could be that he just hasn't found his shot yet. Hopefully, he starts to assert himself a bit more in the coming weeks.
  2. They have two 3-day breaks in December, 8 days off for the All-Star break in January + early February, and then a 4-day break in March that precedes the final stretch of games. Following that final break, there's a game every other day with the exception of two back-to-backs. It's going to be a nonstop run into the playoffs.
  3. Agreed Oz. In years prior I'd be more afraid of a break killing any kind of momentum, but I think this coaching staff knows how to keep these guys engaged. I believe they have two more breaks of similar length throughout the season so they might as well get used to maximizing it. Could always happen in the playoffs.
  4. Vince has covered the difference in intensity and focus of practices multiple times throughout his articles and on his podcast. Other beats have covered it as well. I don't feel like digging too deep to find it, you can do that on your own. One of the biggest complaints about GG was that his practices were too short and lacked any real direction. https://www.lohud.com/story/sports/nhl/rangers/2023/10/14/rangers-lineup-blue-jackets-peter-laviolette-practice/71161198007/ https://nypost.com/2023/10/27/sports/peter-laviolettes-constant-intensity-translating-to-rangers-practices/ If you followed enough of the information coming out about Gallant over the summer, you'd understand how hands-off he was throughout his tenure.
  5. He was pointless in his first two so his 11 points have come in a 6-game point streak.
  6. Nah bro. Don't get me started. A dumb move with numerous compounding consequences.
  7. They were on the same line for most of the season and played on the PP together.

He came in and you watch him in games and the chances he gets in practice and the way he can finish, there's definitely that potential for him to score goals and create up here, as well. I like his straight-ahead speed. I like his physicality. He's pretty smart and pretty reliable defensively. So, there are a lot of positives. And that’s obviously a big goal. A big goal at the right time in the third period. It gets us a win and gets us two points" — Peter Laviolette on Will Cuylle GIF to LOL:
  9. Have you actually listened to or read anything about the locker room under Gallant? He didn't talk to players. How is he making them happy so that results followed? He didn't like having personal conversations with players, he rarely gave speeches in the locker room. Explain what he was doing to actually bring them together beyond their success? The Rangers barely made additions for Gallant? They made additions like Goodrow, Reaves, Nemeth, Carpenter, etc. for Gallant. They had back-to-back historic trade deadlines by acquiring players like Patrick Kane, Vladimir Tarasenko, Andrew Copp, Frank Vatrano, etc. He's had one of the most talented rosters the Rangers have ever had. He never had solutions when the Rangers weren't just rolling the opposition. He let the players do their own thing until it became an actual detriment to the team. What did the team end up seeking out? Actual help. Coaching. Communication. They want to be provided with the tools so that they can do the work themselves. Gallant was never going to provide that because Gallant approached the job differently.
  10. How are you quantifying that? The team may have been looser and happier on account of being a more successful team under a less vocal coach, but there was a big difference in togetherness? One of the biggest grievances about the teams under Quinn and Gallant was a lack of identity and culture. That's wholly different under Laviolette. Guys might have liked each other under Gallant, but they're actually learning how to support each other under Laviolette.

  12. The offense will come at some point once the systems become second nature. I think they're still playing a little conservatively and without the true counter-punch ability that the system can allow for.
  13. The Rangers just aren't producing at 5v5 in general. Is it really just a first line problem? Panarin has the most 5v5 points at 6 followed by Chyil at 4 and then Miller and Lafreniere at 3 points. Everyone else is at 2 or below. This is still a team that's running its offense entirely through the powerplay. They still haven't figured out how to translate their defensive play into consistent offense.

  22. He's third in ES shots on the team with 6 and has 7 total shots across all strengths. He's averaging 2 shots per game which is the highest rate of his career. That's not even accounting for attempts. Maybe actually wait for more than 3 games?
