  1. Weird thing about Kaliyev is that scouts really like to compare him to Brendl. They did on the broadcast last night and I've seen it in print twice. Knowing that I think even those who are interested might just be gambling that no one wants to touch him and they'll get him with better value. Also just a weird year for the OHL.
  2. Lundqvist wants to stay as long as he's happy in NY. He seemed more open to the prospect of moving on if his situation doesn't improve. I wouldn't say that he wholly wants to stay. He wants a cup and he's prideful. I hope some team resurgence is enough for him to be content in the next two years and hopefully he'll get a Cup somehwere in the proces.
  3. OP has been updated to reflect final rankings. McKenzie's is still to be released.
  4. Having Kakko or Hughes at 2 is all the more reason to go for some more risk with 20. You’re getting a surefire high-end player. Why not go for two if you can? Of course if there’s a solid faller that makes sense there to for him, but I’m not sure if there’s really BPA by the time you get to 20.
  5. Not entirely true. He's struggled since he came to NA. In Sweden, he dominated junior and was one of the better U21 scorers in both his draft and D+1 seasons. He has yet to show anything significant here in North America. Even in Hartford, he's been mostly not good, benefitting off of production from weak plays or secondary assists, so I'll give you that. He's capable of more. How much more I don't know, but there's something wrong in his development. Maybe he's just not that good on this side of the pond. Maybe he just needs more time. Brayden Schenn took four post-draft seasons to become a lineup regular.
  6. I mean look up most of the other seventh overall selections of recent years. Most weren't in the NHL or playing pro as early. The issue isn't just the lack of results, but lofty expectations for a player being forced to make a jump he wasn't ready for. They've bounced this kid around because they haven't had a set plan for him once they realized they misjudged how ready he was. Andersson's lack of progress is both a result of him just not being quite as good as expected and the team having no plan for him. They need to get him grinding out his issues with a skills coach. Tampa does that with a lot of their players who struggle with skating. They get better.
  7. He was also 3-4 years older than Fox while doing it and a former forward turned D.
  8. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/147xkMx1y9EFISIlGltebfnZRbj3ce0z9UpgDAqdA9SE/edit?usp=sharing Here's the data ISS puts in its annual draft guide. Represents 2008-2017. Interpret how you will.
  9. That's the narrative that a lot of people have rewritten. No one is knowingly drafting a 45-55 point player with the 7th overall pick. Those were never the expectation of Andersson. The expectations were always that he had a lower ceiling, but a high floor and the ability to step into the NHL immediately. The Rangers legitimately thought they had something better with Andersson. They were targetting Makar, Glass, and Pettersson in the same draft. Why would they suddenly deviate from the type of player they were looking for? Clearly one of skill. Maybe they're just not the greatest talent evaluators. Forget not that Gordie Clark once called Ryan Gropp, he of 11 AHL goals this season, a top 6 offensive talent in the 2015 draft. Not like a top six player. Like literally one of the top six best offensive players in a draft that included Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel, Mitch Marner, Mikko Rantanen, Kyle Connor, Sebastian Aho...you probably get the point.
  10. It's cherry picking to say he's only picked two NHL defensemen in twelve seasons? That's just a fact that shows how bad he is at evaluating defensive talent. It's also not like Skjei nor Del Zotto are shining examples of good defenders. I'm sorry I'm not getting excited over him doing his job and drafting players around where they should be drafted. He's good at drafting role players. Awesome. He has no ability to find higher level talent. The Rangers gutted half of his staff over the last few years. They weren't doing well. If anything, recent success is in due part to Bobrov and a revamp of their USHL, Finnish and CHL scouting. The last two seasons look better, but a majority of his best picks came 11-12 years ago. That's even a stretch to call those picks best because they're: Anisimov, Hagelin, Del Zotto, Weise, and Stepan. I loved Stepan, but if he's your shining example of top quality in over a decade of drafting that's unfortunate. I just can't get excited over someone doing the bare minimum. Or maybe just be better at drafting in the first place?
  11. Here's the list of NHL defensemen drafted by Gordie Clark since his first year in charge (05-06): Michael Del Zotto Brady Skjei He's not good because he can draft a million third and fourth liners.
  12. What's with this fascination with trading Georgiev in favor of a goaltender who has never had success in the NHL? Shestyorkin indicated there's no issue with him playing in Hartford. Maybe don't get rid of a good goalie just cause? Also, add on the fact that no team is trading more than a second or third for him. Better goaltenders with more significant resumes barely get firsts.
  13. He does both, but he's definitely not a pure shooter. He's incredibly well-balanced. Laine can be ineffective when he isn't scoring goals. That's not he case for Kakko.
  14. https://www.tsn.ca/hughes-kakko-in-tight-race-for-top-spot-1.1284470 McKenzie's top 15 before the lottery.
  15. Hockey Prospect had him at 35 in February. I imagine he ends up a little higher on their ranking by the end of the season, but Mark Edwards and co haven't been fans. No way he isn't a first rounder.
  16. TSN ? McKenzie (January 2019): TSN ? Button (Final Ranking): HockeyProspect (Final Ranking): ISS (Final Ranking):
  17. That's only if he plays in New York. He can play in Hartford this season without accumulating a professional year towards the expansion draft. He also can't play in New York because of ELC complications. He's coming over once his season is over. Should be within the next two weeks.
  18. Definitely would pick the Ducks. Gibson is one of the best goaltenders in hockey right now. Perry and Getzlaf can be sold in the near future. Kase and Rakell are both pretty good.
  19. Time and space are gonna be big for him. He's a player who likes to carry the puck in himself quite often. He's going to have to get creative with smaller and likely fewer lanes.
  20. Tarasenko and Kuznetsov staying in the KHL for as long as they did weren't developmental choices. Kravtsov has indicated a desire to come over since he was drafted. The only thing holding him back was his commitment to his KHL contract. Once that expires he's coming over. There's also nothing stopping him from playing say a round or two in the KHL playoffs and still coming over in time for an AHL playoff run if Hartford is in contention.
