  1. No kidding.

If Edmonton is looking for a ?we drafted this kid 4th overall 4 years ago and he?s a top-5 talent? type of return, they?re nuts.

Not only has he done nothing in the NHL, despite his talent and potential, but they?re not exactly dealing from a position of strength with any potential partner

Watch them beat this dog with a shovel instead of putting it down with one bullet

Edmonton has no cards in this one. They lose him for nothing or they get a return. I can see a 1 for 1 deal RFA for RFA like ADA or even a UFA like Kreider with a 2nd rounder. But Cap space is the largest issue for Edmonton when it comes to making the trade. They have under 33k in space to pull it off so they would need us to eat a contract in return....that's something that i dont agree with. The Rangers need two more years to get out of all these horrible contracts as well as dead space, why create more?

I say in a nutshell, pass, or maybe if a 3rd team steps in to help with eating some costs how and why make this happen?

  2. JP at 17/18 years old on Karpat in SM-liiga: 13 g 15 a 28 p in 50 games

    JP at 21 years old on the same team: 11 g 9 a 20 p in 18 games

I'm not sure why he wasn't producing in the NHL since I haven't watched him play that much, but it seems clear that he has progressed as a player in the last few years to be dominating the Finnish league now. I'd love to take a raincheck on him. Really just depends on cost.

He has been very unhappy with the Oilers. Sort of like the Lias Anderson situation where he was playin with some trees on the 4th.

A change of scenery would help. However I am not looking forward to giving up anyone that we cannot afford to lose anyway through UFA or RFA status.

  3. Yes it's too early, etc. etc.

But I would also say that playing on a line without Zib is a much better measurement of where he's at. At that price tag, he should be able to carry a line. He's a lot more valuable if he makes Buch and Strome/Howden/Chytil whoever more productive.

Every line he has been on he had elevated their play.

He is worth every penny. More if we end up with a cup during his time on the roster.

  4. I will say the one con I have seen with Fox is if he takes the body he can get knocked off the puck very easily. But what he's so good at is avoiding contact and/or making crisp passes prior to contact, so it's almost irrelevant.
As he ages he should get stronger on the Puck as he builds upper body strength.

  5. Fox belongs

There will surely be some bumps in the road and peaks and valleys, but he?s an NHL defenseman right now.

I could see Fox being an key part of this team for years to come. He may end up being a player who we could count on like we did with Leetch and Zubov. We haven't had that key OD Man since we lost those two. The team has spent many years trying to fill that void. Does Del Zotto ring any bells? Redden? Shattenkirk? We have been looking for a Leetch/Zubov type player for years.

  6. I'd only trade Kreider if we were able to get:

    1) cost effective player

    2) decent prospect

Either with a 1st rounder and/or conditional 2nd with the ability to be a 1st if he re signs.

Have to take advantage of another teams needs at times like this.

He could prove very valuable to a team like St. Louis or Colorado who need to fill the void.

It may take some more losses on their part before they come crawling looking for help.

  7. I agree. People got way to excited over what happened this offseason. Nice pieces were added but they were added to a skeleton roster. The pain you speak of realistically lasts 4-5 years minimum. Nobody blows it up and contends 2-3 years later. Closest thing was Boston but and a big but they still had Bergeron, chara, Marchand, krejci, rask, etc to build around. We don?t have that. We are in a total rebuild. Those take time. The rangers can add two big pieces which is great but the rest of the roster is either garbage or can?t drink yet. Kids growing up and the garbage running it?s course takes time.
Look at what Colorado did so quickly. It doesn't take that long in todays NHL cap constrained era.

If it took that long players who hit their peak would price themselves out of the market before the team was able to really compete.

I have no expectations aside from watching a team try and compete. In the 7 years of hell, they tried to play a decent game. I feel like I'm watching an AHL trying to swim in the NHL with a pool of sharks

  8. The team looks lost most nights.

Agree to disagree, but yea... The team looks confused.

They're either unable or unwilling to execute. They have to figure which one it is.

I'm not in a win now mind set, nor have I been since the yard sale started. However, I was happy to watch last year, excited in fact.

Not so much this year. I feel like the team doesn't have much of a competitive agenda. They need to figure things out.

I like DQ, always have but in the end its easier to replace a coach than a whole roster. We have seen it with Torts, AV and that's just in the last decade +.

  9. I don't consider bloggers "the media".
Publications are publications regardless of where they are from. It's the same thing as Brooks, he just publishes for a better known paper. In the end it's still just a writer's opinion.

I'm not saying that I agree with the writer, however he does make a good point regarding this defensive system that is in place.

  10. The team needs to let the season play out. Let these kids develop or not. I really don?t know if anybody knows what they have yet. Yes though they need a center and maybe some defense. The defense may already be in the system where the centers are probably not.

The media is already starting the witch hunt.

I agree with letting the year go by, however there are some major issues with the current team that needs to be addressed.

They aren't even competing most nights. Last year they hustled and made an effort in every game. There were over 25 one goal games that they could have won. I just dont see it happening this year.

Unfortunately, for the first time in the 40+ years I've been watching this team, this is the most painful to watch by far.

  11. What do you think that the team need to make the repairs that they so dramatically need right now.

    I'll start....

The team needs a strong LD that can shut down the opposing offense and make decent passes out of the zone or to the RD who can. Not sure who fits that role currently in the organization or outside in the League that's available.

The team needs a 2C, someone who can play a good two way game and can fill in for the 1C in the event of injuries. We have an abundance of Centers right now but nobody has been able to step up.

The team needs to drastically improve on the defensive system.

The team needs to return to focusing on developing the youth in the organization as well as on the current roster.

The team has some good bargaining chips, Kreider and DeAngelo to name a few. If we were to get a decent return I'd be open to trading just about anyone on the roster aside from a select group who makes up the core if the return was of equal value to fit our needs.

  12. Fuck! But i think he might?ve needed an extra year in KHL. He?s only 19. I think KHL is better than AHL for him. I just hope they don?t completely lose the kid.

But hey, we got Haley and McKegg.

I was very upset that the team chose Haley and McKegg over Kratzov. I saw this coming and now that its here I'm starting to lose my respect for DQ.

He was brought in to work with the kids. We were all told about his strong ability to develop and help grow. First he got demoted over McKegg and Haley? Hope Mc and Haley are worth loosing the future.

The team has so much talent and possibilities with the youth, yet they chose to bury them and go with vets? WTF is wrong when the coach brought here to develop doesn't develop? Starting to think that he is getting to comfortable and a better than thou attitude. I say that because he was hired to teach first, win second. I dont care if we win this year as long as we have solid development and a competitive team.

    This whole situation just stinks.

    - NYCKrash....LGR!!

  13. Probably too early for it, but if they fired him tomorrow I wouldn't be upset. I just don't think he's cut out for the job.
I'm ambivalent on DQ. Why wont he try to separate AP and MZ? Why is Lias buried on the 4th? Why Haley?

With so many different kids able to be versatile, why is he so afraid to experiment with what he has?

I thought McKegg was signed to bring some veteran experience to Hartford, Haley was to force Lemieux to ink his contract.

We have so many issues with the team right now its perplexing. We have the ability to be dominant, look at game 2 and period 3 vs Van.

But why does the team lack so much confidence or direction? Is it on DQ?

We have to give him some time to sort out his team. He was brought in to work with the Kids.....why are some of the possible future elite kids in Hartford while we play McKegg or Haley. So Hartford becomes a number 1 team and these kids get experience, yet we struggle to not change the channel on our TV.

Is it DQ? I'm not so sure, but he definitely isn't helping the situation right now and should not be afraid to experiment with the lines.

  14. Every team needs guys like Fast. You get his heart and soul in every shift. He is a real teammate and established himself on this squad.

    He wears the "A".

He won the teams players player award 4 times in a row.

They have to keep him, term maybe 3 or 4, cost, maybe 2 or 2.25 but no more.

Yes those players are out there and may cost less, however a bird in the hand......

    With Pittsburgh

  15. Gotta love the way Smith draws penalties though.

Uhhhhh, what? Wait? Dump Quinn? Jumping the gun much? The guy wants a team playing a certain way. He wasn?t hired to coach the game the way guys play. Old or young - doesn?t matter. Lias has been better. Smith?s minutes are a conundrum unless it?s about showcasing. Patience, have patience.

    - NYCKrash....LGR!!

  16. I agree. I cannot understand why he does not experiment with breaking up the top line.

For example, put back KZB since we know they can play together.

Try Breadman, Anderson and Kakko. Breadman is a winger who can control the play, he plays like a center. Put Lias there to be the defensive center and Kakko to finish.

Third should have Howden centering Chytle and Kratzov.

Fourth should be shut down with say Fast, Nieves and Lemieux.

Why have guys like Haley who takes bad penalties and McKegg who cannot finish around Anderson.

It makes no sense to me. I would imagine that you would try and balance your lines and play these kids.

    But I'm not the coach.

It?s still early so I?m not saying Quinn is a bad coach or anything but some of his decisions so far have been perplexing this season.

  17. He is currently suspended from the team so his cap doesn't count.

I don't understand any of this.

    1) They don't have cap space, their cap space is just being held for Byfuglien.

    2) If that guy doesn't return to hockey, why the fuck would they want Smith? They could use the space on 50 different candidates. Brendan Smith would not be one of those candidates.

    - NYCKrash....LGR!!

  18. Some GM in the league will take advantage of them right now. I wish Wheeler was available and we had some D to give up for him. The way he played against the Rangers was impressive.

Literally the only thing we can do with them is offer them Smith and say you can have him for nothing hoping a 1m retention in salary makes them bite.
