Brooks says that this is not a recurring theme(like with Andreson & Kravtsov), but it kind of sort of is. Sitting out training camp doesn't help the Rangers move him with a 4 point 25 games resume. This is also on Drury for holding on to him for too long, as it was obvious at the trade deadline, that there was no spot for him on this roster. I thought he was trade bait. He couldn't have used Lundqvist to build a similar package for Copp, that didn't include either the condition on the 2nd rounder or Morgan Baron? It's kind of funny how they are looking for a center prospect now. I would do Ryan Poehling(who seems similarly blocked in Montreal) straight-up for Lundkvist in a NY minute.

Canes Sign Paul Stastny to 1-Year/$1.5m Contract
MuddyInTheMiddle replied to LindG1000's topic in Hockey Around the Globe
If Stasny and his 21 goals last season is worth a million and a half, maybe it's wishful thinking that Drury is playing a high stakes poker game to get Motte signed for $750-900K. That would be major boss move on his part if that's how it plays out; that good luck meme(below) they posted on social media to all the departing players and that Motte's name was not on it gives me hope. https://www.facebook.com/nyrangers/photos/10159151708944858 -
It's August and training camps are a month away. The off-season signings have slowed down dribble of about one per day for the entire NHL so that market is more or less set. If you are Drury, who are you offering a tryout contract to from the list below(assuming that they stay unsigned)? https://www.capfriendly.com/ufas I'm thinking: Ryan Murray Tyler Motte Evan Rodrigues Derek Stepan(for nostalgia's sake)

The BSBH Unjustly Hated Rangers Power Rankings
MuddyInTheMiddle replied to Phil's topic in New York Rangers
Ha! Missed that. I think Cullen is the very definition of this thread and is even more so than Strome or Nash. Rozival is the only one that I really see as being more deserving of the top spot. -
Brooks Rangers Will be in on Patrick Kane
MuddyInTheMiddle replied to Phil's topic in New York Rangers
I completely overlooked that detail in my last post, and it is great to have the bread man as a pull. In all fairness though, that is what he is saying now(supposedly). It might be a different scenario when the trade deadline comes around and he sees the landscape a little better about who has the best chance to win the cup. I have to assume that winning the Stanley Cup will take precedence over playing on Bread's off wing. -
Brooks Rangers Will be in on Patrick Kane
MuddyInTheMiddle replied to Phil's topic in New York Rangers
Agreed, but it will be a steep price if Chicago is eating half of the cap hit. Every playoff team and their dog will want to add a productive Patrick Kane at that cost. Impossible to say which prospect(s) as we don't know who is going to continue to develop this season with injuries and opportunities factored in; but I would think two first round picks plus will be the ask(depending on the prospect/player going the other way). -
The BSBH Unjustly Hated Rangers Power Rankings

Definitely spot on with McLean and Driver, but did anyone think that they were actually going to improve at the end of their careers? Fleury I guess I remember people more having issues more with his off ice problems than his production. Karpa(btw, yes that is his son) was a 5-6 defenseman in Anaheim/Carolina, and was largely the same thing here. Was here during the dark ages so the awfulness that was the Ranegrs and that deal did him in. Holik was the exact same thing , just substitute 3rd line center for 5-6 defenseman. He was never going to be able to handle the role of 1C or 2C. Another oldie but goody that I forgot to mention as I was typing what a miscast 2C Holik was: Matt Cullen -
The BSBH Unjustly Hated Rangers Power Rankings
MuddyInTheMiddle replied to Phil's topic in New York Rangers
Honorable mention: Bruce Driver John McLean Bobby Holik Theo Fleury Mike Keane Dave Karpa All players that were exactly what they were before they got here, but were universally hated because hey signed big money deals in the no cap era, and didn't magically turn into Hart Trophy candidates. -
2021-22 Off-Season Thread — Go Into the Sadness

Tyler Motte still available; what are the chances that he takes a discount from his ask for a 3-4 year term? -
2021-22 Off-Season Thread — Go Into the Sadness
MuddyInTheMiddle replied to Phil's topic in New York Rangers
As I look at the remaining teams on Cap Friendly with space, I am hard pressed to see who is giving Kadri that supposed 7-8 million X 7 year contract he was looking for. -

Yup. The easiest thing to do here would be to ask him to retire and offer him some studio analyst work(which he would probably excel at). -
Rangers Sign Ryan Carpenter to 1-Year/$750K Deal
MuddyInTheMiddle replied to Phil's topic in New York Rangers
Would love to see both make the team by the end of the season. Unless Othmann outright wins a spot out of camp, and sticks past the 10 games, he needs to go back to the CHL. Cullyle on the other hand has the luxury of not making the team out of camp, and finding his NHL game in the AHL. -
Rangers Sign Jaro Halak to 1-Year/$1.55m Deal
MuddyInTheMiddle replied to Phil's topic in New York Rangers
Something that I just noticed is that there is No Movement Clause attached to this contract. Not the biggest deal since it's only 1 year. However if I am not mistaken and he just completely poops the bed for 5-6 straight starts and the coaching staff loses all confidence in him, they would have to carry 3 goalies again at the NHL level to start a Domingue or Garand in his place. -

Whoops! Wrong thread; I shouldn't day drink. Can one of the admins drop that port into the Off-season Sadness thread? -
Rangers Sign Jaro Halak to 1-Year/$1.55m Deal
MuddyInTheMiddle replied to Phil's topic in New York Rangers
Am surprised that nobody has offer-sheeted Kaako at 3 million X 2 years. It's a pretty easy flyer that someone could take on his potential, and all they would have to compensate the Rangers is a measly 2nd round pick. -

It is Time to Name a Captain
MuddyInTheMiddle replied to Cordelia B Willhams III's topic in New York Rangers
Of course it's abstract; if you don't think it is tell me what the 12 Forwards, 6 Defensemen, & 2 Goalies will be for the beginning of the 2024-25 season will be and ask a mod to sticky it above. I stated that in my opinion, Trouba is the odd man out if the current variables hold. Chris Drury really doesn't put a lot of weight in my opinions though. -

Predicting what management will be thinking two full off seasons from now seems a little abstract to me. It's all just speculation anyway. -

Trouba is the odd man out in that scenario, not Lingdren if the variables stay the same.
