Long live the King
I was thinking Oscar Lindberg a year or two ago. Was told I had no idea what I was talking about and the two don't compare. Now? I'd rather have Lindberg, because Andersson looks like a bust and a half. When he was drafted I saw his skills as so down the middle and average. I never got the hype. I'd have taken a different player, but that draft isn't producing very much, so it's not like they would have done much better taking someone else. If any team wants him. I trade him. Holding onto such a player because he is home grown and cost controlled, doesn't make sense to me. I'd rather see Boo Nieves in the role Andersson is playing. At least you would know he is giving max effort and not being a fucking baby. I totally jump on a Pajamas trade straight up.Lindberg is out of the league but sure. The Dude
Andersson is being a baby?? Seems like he is pouting. Body language and his lack of engaged play, while in a situation where he should be putting in extra effort to make his coach give him more looks with better players, kinda lends to the thought that he's mad he's not handed a spot. I just always think of him as a spoiled brat, since his medal throwing incident. For a kid who should be playing with some fire and spark, he looks disinterested in his play. Quinn not giving him more chances suggests to me that he probably isn't giving much effort in practice either.

I think the opposite,I see pretty good effort and more involved than last season, I just don't see much offensively. I think if he wasn't giving effort in practice he wouldn't be here, think that's reading into it way too much. I just don't know how much we can expect from someone not very offensively talented, who is playing with 2 slugs as well.
Sod16
The best we saw from Oscar Lindberg here was better than what we've seen from Andersson, but Lindberg was further along. I don't know what happened to Lindberg. Following a strong finish with the Rangers in 2017, he was picked over Fast, Grabner and Ranta and was considered by many to be one of Vegas's better picks. He never got off the ground there. The chances of a my underachiever for your underachiever deal involving Andersson are strong. It's just a matter of now or a year from now, slight bust for slight bust, or big bust for big bust.

RJWantsTheCup
I think they drafted Andersson hoping they?d get their future captain and shutdown center in 5-7 years. There?s no salient point to be made on either him or Howden at this point. Both still writing their stories. Early chapters for both. I vaguely remember reading they thought he could turn into a Ryan Kesler type player.
CBrowningPI
It seems to me that Andersson is being groomed by Quinn to be a PK specialist, 3rd line, checking center. To be the young Jesper Fast. There's nothing wrong with that if that's how Andersson sees himself, and maybe he does. Since the start of the season Quinn has mixed up the lines to see what works. Most fans, not just on this forum, have been wondering when Andersson will be given a look in the middle 6. Give the kid 1 or 2 games. Quinn is in it to win it, we get that. Every other rookie has gotten the line bumps and the minutes, deserved or not in some cases. From what many have seen, Anderssons effort doesn't seem to be in question. His faceoffs were in question and he has rectified that recently. So we still just wait to see if Quinn will give him a chance.
josh
They can be compared, I just don't think it's useful anymore. Lias hasn't proven he's worth a bump in playing time. Rangers have played well, they've been scoring goals, and while Howden hasn't exactly been lighting the world on fire, Lias has been even less noticeable. Why would Quinn put the "less engaged" player on the ice for a big face off? Every time Lias is mentioned someone throws in the disclaimer: he's playing with "non scorers." Guess who is also a non-scorer? Lias. He has one point. So while Howden isn't impressive, he's more reliable and more productive than Lias to this point. So why in the world would Lias go out randomly for a big faceoff? He hasn't earned that yet. Not to say he won't eventually, but he hasn't. Since Zibanejad went out, Andersson is at 60% in the faceoff dot. Strome 46% Howden 41% Chytil 33% (Kreider 50%)

He seems like a hard working kid for me, and you can easily see he?s improved over the summer in some aspects of the game he really needed to work on. ThirtyONE
I think there's still many fans, and some posters here, with this pre-existing view and dislike of Andersson because of the medal throwing. Which is ridiculous but it happens. People root for particular players over the team and it happens every season. This debate is tired. It's 15 games into the season. Lias has a long career ahead of him. There's no reason no good reason to trade him other than lack of patience, which is what this season is about. If the Rangers want to make a lateral trade and believe JP has a higher ceiling than Lias, fine. But to claim that he has to be moved because his value is high(est) is short sighted. Seacrest Out. Sod16
I definitely agree that it would be a mistake to trade him without an audition in a larger role, earned or not.

Strome 46% Howden 41% Chytil 33% (Kreider 50%) Ok, but what are the actual totals taken? If he's at 60% but has taken 100 less faceoffs than the next guy, does the percentage mean anything? SaveByRichter35
Coworker is into another Rangers website, I think it is more of a blog than a forum. He said there is some talk on that site of a possible trade with Detroit, Lias for Zadina. They need centers and Zadina is stuck in the AHL. Unfortunately I do not have sources, I am just forwarding some rumors that I heard. Take it for what you will.
