Parsley
The writing was on the wall for massive storm surges (Sandy-like) and potentially 20-40 inches of rain in some areas due to the slow movement of the storm. Unfortunately, the way tropical storms are classified Cat 1 - Cat 5 some make it seem as if a Cat 1 or 2 can't be life threatening or destructive. That's just not the cast. You almost wonder if a new classification chart should be made. Based more on impact vs. core strength of the hurricane.

Parsley
[video=youtube;fC9Cb0-X-l0] I?ve said it a million times, media tarnishes the science of meteorology. Hype, fear and bullshit. The weather Channel used to be a legit source (80s and early 90s) now it?s B.S. GordonGecko
SO much hype from this one. Watching the news last Thursday every word had to be prefixed with a big scary adjective "Life threatening" winds, "catastrophic" flooding, "devastating" storm - all before the storm even arrived. The on scene people all had their tight camera shots of a windy or flooded spot and when the cameraman panned to a different area when they didn't track the reporter exactly you could see that everywhere else was fine except that one spot they were hyperventalating about. Parsley
Just amazing intensfication over the past 24-36 hours with regards to Hurricane Michael set to strike the panhandle of Florida later today. It is now up to a CAT 4 strength in terms of wind and pressure. Storm surge is going to be be phenomenal on the east side of the storm.
Pete
Dude, when is the Eastern seaboard going to dry out? If it's not rain, it's 100 percent humidity.
Parsley
Dude, when is the Eastern seaboard going to dry out? If it's not rain, it's 100 percent humidity. This tropical system could help to be the "enema" for all this crap we've been dealing with regards to humidity and clouds...in its wake (we'll see some rain from a strong cold front and some interaction with Michael Thursday into Friday) the weekend as of the now is looking cool and dry with low humidity. Will we stay in the a seasonable pattern thereafter? Not sure. It does looks like better chances for cool shots and nicer weather in the weeks ahead. Parsley
Brutal. Only good thing is that is will landfall in a less populated part of the the state. Panama City will get hit hard with a landfall just to its east, but luckily it?s not a Tampa or Miami landfall. With that said their will be deaths across Florida and Georgia from flooding. The coast will be rearranged with a storm surge alone of 10-14 feet in some areas in the panhandle. Hurricane force impact will be felt into southern Georgia too. Again, not highly populated areas but still big time problems for smaller towns and cities. Parsley
Absolutely devastating in the towns just east of Panama City beach. Check out twitter reports. Pics of massive storm surge and wind damage are staggering. Southern Georgia in big trouble tonight. Going to be a nightmare for many smaller towns in its path.
