I guess it's a tad rich, maybe, but he's probably being paid commiserate to what he brings. It might even be cheaper than had he gotten to free agency.

Also, what does what COL gave up to get him have anything to do with what they paid him? He didn't force a trade, like Trouba.

 

What's Sakic supposed to say? "Well, Ross, we're not going to pay you what you're worth because we gave your old team a high pick to get you".

 

One deal was with the team, the other is with the player. They have nothing to do with each other unless the player forced the trade to the team. Then you can leverage that a little.
