John Gibson: 'I Am Not Playing Another Game for the Anaheim Ducks'

This one's wild. The player's agent pushed back on the quote, basically not denying he's requested a trade, but refuting that he said these exact words. Seravalli is sticking to his reporting:

Given the lay of the land here, the only two teams I can envision even having a spot/role for Gibson are the Devils or the Jets (once Hellebuyck gets his wish to be traded, too). In other words, welcome to New Jersey, John?

Are the Devils sniffing around John Gibson, the Anaheim goaltender who has informed GM Pat Verbeek he would prefer not to go through another rebuild but at the same time has issued no ultimatum?

Why, yes, sources tell us, that is exactly what New Jersey is doing as they weigh whether the Vitek Vanecek-Akira Schmid tandem can get them to the promised land coming out of a division that features Igor Shesterkin and Ilya Sorokin in a league in which Adin Hill’s team won the Cup.

He’s 4-5 seasons from his last good season, but as said, they’ve been downright awful for a while now.

Hellebuyck would be a mistake for them. Wise to stay away.

Cost to acquire will be at least pretty high, and then he’s going to want big dollars on a long-term extension, which wouldn’t kick in until next summer, when he’ll be 31.
You’re probably looking at either 7 or 8 seasons, and somewhere in the $8+ million range. Big number to pay till he’s 38 or 39.
