It's being jump started for them.

This is true, but you can do what you did with Tkachuk and try to get bodies in that are NHL players to try and stay competitive. It seems like with a new GM and new coach, however, now is the right time to get some futures and build from the ground up. In addition to those three, Toffoli is coming off a career year and has one year left, half their D corps is only signed through the season, and Markstrom's contract is palatable if a team thinks he can rediscover his form of two seasons ago.

That org could have been in such a tremendous spot if they just started ripping it down last summer. Imagine that team with loads of picks and prospects from the Tkachuk trade, and without the Huberdeau or Kadri contracts. It's just a brutal turn of events.

As bad as it is for the team, imagine how Huberdeau and Kadri are feeling. They are getting paid, yeah, but the rest of their careers are looking like playing on a dead end team because nobody is going to want those contracts.

"hey Vinny, it's Chris...how you feeling about waiving the ol' NMC to go play for Calgary?"

Nah, just play him on the fourth line and make him miserable, take away his favorite toy and tape his stick to his leg so he can't chuck, miss the net, or puck hog anymore.

Isn't that what we do when we want people to wave their NMCs?

I don't think that's true of Kadri. Huberdeau... woof.
