Phil Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Quote The Washington Capitals this morning became the first National Hockey League team to announce they would be placing an advertisement on their in-game uniforms. The announcement comes just a few weeks after the NHL approved the practice, the second “big four” league to do so. Beginning with the 2022-23 NHL season, the Capitals will wear a Caesars Sportsbook patch on the upper right corner of their home and third jerseys, allowing it to be seen on-ice during every home game the Caps play at Capital One Arena. The patch is 3 x 3.5 inches in size and is a simple single-coloured white version of the logo. https://news.sportslogos.net/2021/09/24/washington-capitals-first-to-announce-on-ice-jersey-ad-deal-for-2022-23/hockey-2/
Albatrosss Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 i dont understand why gambling sites are allowed to advertise in such format as putting their names on jerseys. i dont want my kids to see that shit. addiction to gambling is a serious disease that can ruin your life. 1

Just add it to the list.
Albatrosss Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 that list is long enough. they cant advertise alcohol or tobacco products near schools, so why let these?
Morphinity 2.0 Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 They're advertising on these jerseys near a school????

Or we can cut out the pearl clutching and realize this isn't going to send kids down some deep dark hole because of a logo on a jersey. 1
Long live the King Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Oh, don't forget the Foxwoods Final 5...
Albatrosss Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 seems to me these other ads are different from sports gambling sites on jerseys. maybe i'm overreacting.

Morphinity 2.0 Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 I'm just not interested in the "if you don't have kids you wouldn't understand" argument.

Phil Posted September 24, 2021 Author Posted September 24, 2021 I hope your kids never watch TV, read magazines, use the internet, or listen to the radio. You're going to need a hermetically sealed environment to protect them from being exposed to gambling (which is on a legalizing trajectory in many states), alcohol, sex, and other facets of everyday life you potentially object to.
Albatrosss Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 so you dont really care what your kids are exposed to? i do. i dont understand what's so ridiculous about that
Long live the King Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 the point is you can't shelter them from the world. what you can do it talk to them about healthy habits.
Morphinity 2.0 Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Your bar for "exposure" is ridiculously low though. An ad for the Caesar's Sportsbook is such a small thing and I have a hard time believing it can lead to some sort of gambling addiction down the road.

Alcohol ads dont really bother me, for some reason, although i agree, alcohol is much worse.

Again, we're at an impasse because your worldview conflates less than perfect with bad. 12 minutes ago, Long live the King said: the point is you can't shelter them from the world. what you can do it talk to them about healthy habits. ^ And if they're equipped with the right tools (critical thinking skills), simple exposure to an idea you object to won't actually be damaging at all.
