Scott Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 some details. Pretty big number under a flat cap. As first reported by Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Dallas Stars are expected to sign Miro Heiskanen to an eight-year deal worth upwards of $8 million. Heiskanen becomes Dallas' highest-paid defenseman, overtaking Esa Lindell's $5.8-million cap hit. Heiskanen was a pending RFA, but with the 21-year-old proving over the past few years that he's a star in the making, a long-term deal makes perfect sense for all parties involved. A third-year NHLer, Heiskanen was unable to help the Stars advance to the playoffs, but his playoff run in 2020 en route to a Stanley Cup final appearance is one most fans won't forget in some time. In 27 games, Heiskanen had an incredible 26 points to lead all defensemen. In 55 regular season games this year, Heiskanen had 27 points. Heiskanen's new deal puts him tied for seventh in the league in terms of cap hit among defensemen, but perhaps the only defensemen ahead of him that may be close to Heiskanen's game at this point would be Roman Josi ($9.05 million) and Alex Pietrangelo ($8.8 million).
Phil Posted July 17, 2021 Author Posted July 17, 2021 Probably $9 million. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

BrooksBurner Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 Fox — $10M per? Probably $9 million. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro jesus fuck thats not good for fox Groom Lundkvist to be the next youngest Norris winner. Trade :fox: for Draisaitl or Matthews.
BrooksBurner Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 Just sign Fox now before Makar signs and pushes the price even higher. By the time Makar signs, 9M a year will be a discount. Might be able to lock Fox in for a hair more than Heiskenen if you do it now. 8 yrs 70 mill, 8.75 AAV.
Phil Posted July 17, 2021 Author Posted July 17, 2021 Josi gets more than $9 Josi isn't a comparable. He signed his deal in 2019, at the age of 30. They bought all UFA years. The comparables/peers for Fox are going to be Chabot, Heiskanen, Hughes, and Makar. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Sod16 Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 Ha, those long ago days in a simpler time when posters talked about 8per for 8 to sign Fox.
siddious Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 He wants to be a ranger thought I can see him taking 8mil Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Pete Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 I'd be waiting to see what Fox does in a normal season before extending. You just never know. He already has a Norris so it's not like his tag can go up all that much.
Phil Posted July 18, 2021 Author Posted July 18, 2021 They can't extend him until January anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Pete Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 They can't extend him until January anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk ProYes, hence my point about waiting until after next season...and NOT extending in Jan.
Phil Posted July 18, 2021 Author Posted July 18, 2021 Yeah, I'd be fine with that. Puts a little space between when Hughes, Makar, etc are all likely to sign their deals already, too.
josh Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 And the Rangers are great with signing dmen. :disappointed: I agree with waiting... unless it’s a cheap bridge deal
