Long live the King Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Get him on the ice to teach the centers how to with a gd faceoff.
BlairBettsBlocksEverything Posted February 5, 2021 Author Posted February 5, 2021 Not sure what Associate GM means?
Rangers Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Not sure what Associate GM means? Just means we have two GM’s, in case one wants to go play golf, we have another one.
Sharpshooter Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 It was a good call by him to take on the inevitable Pittsburgh freefall and just stay here.
BlairBettsBlocksEverything Posted February 5, 2021 Author Posted February 5, 2021 Obviously, they see lots of value in keeping him in the organization and don't want to lose him to another team. Also probably means he was a favorite for the Pitt job and in order to keep him here, they needed to give him a promotion/raise. But I can't imagine what the difference between Associate GM and Assistant GM is?
ThirtyONE Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 This is like last night when sam said: “Scott Arniel the former associate coach” ...and I thought what the hell is an associate coach?
Pete Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Seems fairly straightforward. GM has tons of shit to do, he needs someone to delegate some things to. Also grooms Drury for a GM position next. Almost as good as winning the Little League World Series!

In Scott Arneil's case it just seemed like he got to wear an earpiece.
BlairBettsBlocksEverything Posted February 5, 2021 Author Posted February 5, 2021 I mean that's an assistant GM though no? Probably means the same thing but Associate sounds better than Assistant.
Patrick Bateman Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Its just a corporate title thing. He prob got a raise and a new title, Associate is always a step up from Assitant
Sharpshooter Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 It's quite clear that this makes him an Assisciate!

In Scott Arneil's case it just seemed like he got to wear an earpiece.I feel like assistant is a little bit of a downgrade from associate. Assistant is somebody who's helping you do something, associate is more of a responsibility sharing title. Just going based off my field, where we have associate creative director, but a creative directors assistant is basically their admin.

Probably not much, but this is as close to a Co-GM scenario as we've likely seen. In effect, Drury is the guy if and when anything happens to Gorton.
Sharpshooter Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 JD is getting up there in age. Who knows how long he will continue to be President. If he were to step down in the near future, you figure Gorton is the new President and Drury becomes the new GM.

siddious Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Probably. JD (67) signed a five-year deal. He'll be 70 or so when the deal is up. Who knows where drury will be by then. That?s a long time to remain an associate GM. Also why does it feel like JD is older than 6?7? Sent from my iPhone using Blueshirts Brotherhood mobile app powered by Tapatalk
Phil Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 There's probably an aspect of this just being a thank you for not taking the Pittsburgh gig, too.
ThirtyONE Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 There's probably an aspect of this just being a thank you for not taking the Pittsburgh gig, too. Yeah, I don't know if it's a "thank you" or a "hey just so you know, we appreciate what you do here" kind of thing. But yeah, timing isn't coincidental.
