Canadiens Have Told Max Pacioretty They Will Not Negotiate a Contract Extension

Recommended Posts

According to what an NHL source told The Athletic, general manager Marc Bergevin has told his captain there will be no contract negotiation and that his intention is to trade Pacioretty as soon as possible.

TSN had reported a month ago, back when Pacioretty was still represented by Pat Brisson, that there were preliminary contract talks between his camp and the Canadiens. Those talks never progressed and apparently, the fact that Pacioretty is now represented by Allan Walsh has not changed the situation.

When contacted by The Athletic, Walsh did not want to comment on his client?s status with the Canadiens.

?I?ll reiterate what Max has said a number of times, that he loves Montreal, he holds Montreal dear to his heart and he hopes to stay,? Walsh said.

Pacioretty hopes to sign a lucrative, long-term contract extension as a sort of status adjustment after being considered one of the biggest bargains in the NHL over the length of his current deal. He would also like nothing more than to sign that contract with Montreal. But trade rumours have swirled around him since Christmas, they intensified approaching the trade deadline and came close to being realized just before the draft. So it?s fair to say Bergevin has had a different outcome in mind for quite some time.
