Stephen Colbert Will Succeed David Letterman as Host of The Late Show

Colbert should do well, there's no late night titan he's got to worry about. And with cable/pay TV, CBS/NBC/ABC/Fox are competing for fewer and fewer viewers. Right now we've got a bunch of niche entertainers that a small slice of the viewers find funny - if Colbert is smart he'll try to expand outside his core to the mainstream.

I remember when Colbert dumped a bucket of pennies on Kimmel and said "welcome to 11:30 bitch". Looking back, this is even funnier now.

 

I'm guessing the show will stay in NY?

I think there may be a problem (at least at first) with typecasting. Most people only know him as the character he portrays on the Colbert Report.

I dont agree with this at all. Colbert IMO, is going to be boring in that spot. I would have gone for someone like Chelsea Handler to replace him. She is funny, a bit edgy, and brings in all different types of demo's. I honestly have zero interest in watching Colbert late at night.

Finally a late night talkshow host who I actually find funny. I know this is probably blasphemy, but I found Letterman as unfunny as Leno and I rarely laugh about Conan. There's something about this slow type of humor and the predictably interviews that's insanely boring to me.
