Soccer Referee Gets Decapitated by Enraged Fans After Stabbing Player to Death

Yea, good ol Soccer, quite literally the sport of fanatics.

Gotta love; Police have arrested one suspect.

I don't think the sport itself is the reason it draws fanatics. I mean, it's just the biggest sport and anyone with a ball can play it. No matter how crazy, poor or fanatic.

This is like saying "good old NFL, quite literally the sport of criminals."

Not really, because there are criminals littering all 4 major sports.

As far as people getting killed in the stands, refs getting killed, players getting their throats cut...Soccer does lead the world.

Also one of the few sports played in countries were people more regularly kill each other and cut each others throats. Both soccers blessing and downfall is the fact that you don't need much more than a ball to play it. It means anyone can play, but anyone includes lunatics.

Here in The Netherlands soccer was littered with hooligans, so law enforcement opted for soccer bans, literally banning people from going to any soccer game anywhere and only selling tickets to people registered with one team and one team only. Within a year hooligans had fought over professional hockey games half a dozen time. A sport very much unfamiliar to fans fighting here until the hooligans needed a new sport to use as a sad excuse for their barbaric entertainment.

The violence around soccer is mostly unrelated to the sport of soccer - the rules and game itself are not inherently more interesting to fanatics because of its content - and is all a simple result of how widespread and accessible the sport is. If you want to make a statement, if you want to fight, if you want to wreck havoc, you do it were most people go and most people go to soccer.

Have you ever seen the riots at Greek and Turkish basketball games? It goes far beyond what happens around the NBA. It also doesn't make basketball a violent game. It's just a popular sport with the wrong crowd in the wrong place. If your sport is as global as soccer, the same effect occurs.
