It's here, It's here. I've got my copy of "A dance with Dragons" today.
lol at the dedication to men and women from "Asshai, Spain" who sang him of "the bear and maiden fair", has there ever been a complete version of that "nice" little song? :D
Happy fan here right now. :)
I have to go away for a two day business trip today, expecting to find the book at my doorstep when I get back though!

Spring of 2012. No word on month or date yet.
Balls....oh well. Book 5 should keep me occupied for a week or two...is it hockey season yet?

I was not, Dane. There are a few people in the thread who are discussing the books, in detail, and also providing commentary for those who were discussing the show and making inferences (yes, you're right, you'll see next week, no he doesn't die until later, etc). I apologize if you thought it was directed to you.
Ok that's good, I understand that spoiling is not cool and ruins it for those who don't chain-read or who prefer who just want to watch the HBO show. I'm hoping season 2 will have more than 10 episodes, anyone know when it will premiere?

I don't think I've spoiled anything at all - all I intended to say is that the books are very good and well worth the read. My apologies if you were referring to me Peetie.

I'm starting A Clash of Kings sometime this week. My expectations are as follows:
-By the end of the 2nd book, Joffrey best be dismembered. I do hope that it is Sansa who grows a pair and does it - Lorena Bobbit style.
-Khal Drogo best rise from the dead and command his Dragon Khal alongside Danaerys.
Wrong on both counts, I doubt anyone will guess the truth of what will happen. I know I didn't I've already finished all 4 books and preordered the 5th, which I should have in a week or so. Can't wait. The best part about the book as you read on is the evolution of the characters - you WILL change your opinion of some of the characters, and some of them remain as lovable or as resentful as they were in the first book!

HELL YES! My bachelor thesis was approved by my professor with a very decent grade and I passed all other classes too. This puts me right on track to get my BA in history and American studies by January next year and that's a great feeling.
Hiii summer, good to see you!
Congrats Jules!
Not a very good start to the day for me, I need a pitcher of coffee...

For those of you who watched the first season, but not the books, I can guarantee you (without spoiling) that seasons 2 and 3 (if they stick to 1 season a book) will blow your mind. I'm halfway through book 4 at this point and I preordered book 5.

Chris Drury
He was far from obscure, I don't think anyone will forget Chris Drury as a Ranger, even though many of us might want to...
-
He played two seasons. 95-96 and 96-97.
Strange, I could swear that I watched virtually every game those two seasons including playoffs!

Shane Churla.
Who? Seriously, I've never heard of this guy...

This thread has provided me with a lot of 'Oh yeah this guy played for us once!'...then I look at the thread title and remember why they're here (and why I forgot they were ever Rangers). My contribution is....

After Jules told me about this series a couple of weeks ago, I got hooked. Watched the entire series twice and now I'm about 1/4 into the 2nd book. The series stays immensely close to the books, although it is harder to keep track of who everyone is, although the connection between the Mormont and Ser Jorah is mentioned once I believe.
If the series continues to stay true to the story written, I think the series will continue to see success. Hopefully we get more episodes the 2nd time around!
P.S. For those of you interested to know which scenes were filmed where, I can confirm that all the scenes at King's Landing were filmed in Malta (including Ned Stark's execution). The marriage between Khal Drogo and Dany was filmed in Gozo, about a 10 minute drive of where I used to live.
