  1. Agreed - you knew it was coming -

    Not so much Osney, but Jaime denying her right to champion

    I'm glad ADWD is a stronger read, but I'm guessing that's because of the way GRRM wrote the books, since AFFC has no Dany, no Tyrion, no Stannis/Melisandre, etc.

    Though, the developments in the Danaerys plot in AFFC were quite monumental - that the Ironborn and the Maesters are now after her without her knowledge should be fun times

    Oh yeah I've no doubt that AFFC was just a filler text building up subplots for the conclusion. I'm pretty sure that Jon isn't dead, because it would be pointless just killing him off like that and I have a feeling that Dany, Jon and Tyrion are the three most important characters in the series.

  2. Just finished ASoS - around 100 into AFFC.

    ok, the ending of aSoS was a pure unfettered bukkake of fuckery. Wildlings swept away? ITS FUCKIN STANNIS BITCHES. Jon Snow? Commander (though that was foreshadowed for at least 1500 page at this point). Lysa Arryn? DOWN THE FUCKIN MOON DOOR. Tyrion? Goes Shawshank, escapes and shoots Tywin right in the junk with a crossbow. Bunch of new characters at beginning of aFfC - clearly all in disguise.

    Oh, and I've read 1 chapter and I hate Damphair. He seems like a right cunt.

    You forgot to mention Tyrion strangling Shae for her betrayal

  3. And Storm of Swords gets even fucking weirder.... (850 pgs in)

    HOLY FUCK JOFFREY'S DEAD YES YES YES YES YES FUCKIN YES!!!!!!!

    Littlefinger saved Sansa? I call all sorts of bullshit here. Barristan Selmy exposing Ser Jorah as one of Varys' spiders? Barristan Selmy in disguise in the service of Danaerys? This is all confusing and going to hell!!!!

    You'll find out about Littlefinger soon enough. It was fairly obvious in 'A Game of Thrones' that Jorah was one of Varys' spiders and Ser Barristan was on King Robert's Council. His motive for serving Dany will also be made clear. Yes, you can celebrate Joffrey's death, but buckle down for the ending!

  4. Welcome to the club, I have yet to meet a person who didn't share that sentiment.

    Red Wedding really hits you hard doesn't? Especially as the reader is fooled as well by the Freys, I remember being relieved when it seemed like Edmures wedding would patch things together again and could see the same in my father when he reached that point...and then RW.

    Martin already said he will be far away from the US on the day the TV show reaches that part. :D

    Bottom line: Never, I repeat NEVER go to a wedding in Westeros. Far too dangerous.

    @Dane

    It's sad that all sons of Eddard Stark are so like him. Great boys, good at leading and war, with great sense of honor and courage. But not an ounce of political talent.

    Indeed, and if I remember correctly, there are still a couple of hundred pages in the book!

    @H-Dreamer

    He'd better find a really good spot to hide, preferably in a third world country where they haven't heard of Game of Thrones. At least the Stark girls are doing a much better job at surviving after Ned's execution

  5. Evil isn't the word for what I just read.

    Edmure's "wedding". Seeing how close Robb was to gaining his success, knowing that he's named Jon Snow his heir, but he'll probably never know, and how close the reunion of Robb, Catelyn and Arya was, only to have that crap go down?

    . The word I would use is gutwrenching.

    Yeah, the Red Wedding is probably the most depressing scene in the series to date. Its actually based off a historical event called the Black Wedding during Medieval times. GRRM is quoted for saying that this was the last scene he wrote for SoS and by far the hardest. But its not like you didn't predict beforehand that Robb would get killed. Like his father Ned, he completely misplayed his hand politically and lost a lot of allies, like the Karstarks and Freys.

  6. Sort of. I was upset to see Arya get betrayed again, but it isn't quite as dark and evil as you've suggested - not yet anyway. The whole Jon Snow storyline is fucking whacked out...I'll give you that much. I just got to Sam's first PoV chapter. Honestly, I'm getting kind of sick of the Nights Watch storyline - it's the same thing.... Jon is awesome, ooooh scary wildlings, dead guy rises, we're all cold and shit.

    Yes, the Night's Watch storyline takes a long time to develop - right now most of the action is about the War of the Five Kings and Dany. At this point, I'm fairly certain that the Night's Watch storyline will be the end game of things, and some interesting things will happen along the way.

    Again, reserve judgement for after you read the entire book. Most of the dramatic events tend to happen close to the end ;)

  7. @Rome

    I think her chapters exist mainly to follow Robb, without making him a PoV character. Never really knew why Martin preferred Cat over Robb, propably because she was around in GoT and he didn't want another Stark-PoV character. As Robb is becoming more independent from his mother every day, she is often left somewhere which makes her chapters boring in comparison. Cause the action is always somewhere else.

    I think Martin chose not to include Robb as a POV character because he doesn't really have a very interesting role in the entire story, except for his role as commander and King of the North. He hasn't done much other than that, and what he's done politically was done in Cat Stark's presence. Catelyn Stark imo has a much more involved political role in the story, for example the Brienne storyline amongst others

  8. To get back to the TV show for a moment, I found out that George RR Martin wrote in his blog a while ago that Gwendoline Christie has been cast to play Brienne of Tarth.

    Well, being 6'3 probably makes her fit that part, though her looks are quite unfitting, but for that there is also a way, this is TV. :D

    Needless to say, that is not how I envisioned that character to look like at all :p
