IMO, because it happened so late, with almost no options left, so he got who he could get with upside. I’m not knocking Roslovic. I just don’t see as natural of a fit for him here as someone like Duclair.

I actually think Roslovic is a much better fit for this team than Duclair and a better overall player. You can move roslovic all over the lineup and he can help. He was even killing penalties for CBJ.  Duclair, like you mentioned, is a one trick pony.  I haven’t checked what his stats are but historically it’s harder to score in the postseason. I know roslovic will still contribute if he’s not scoring.

    so couple playoffs lineups

    CK-Zib-Kakko

    Panarin-Tro-Laf

    Cuylle-Roslovic-Goodrow

    Vesey-Wennberg-Brodzinski/Rempe/1leg Wheeler

     or

    CK-Zib-Roslovic

    Panarin-Tro-Laf

    Cuylle-Wennberg-Kakko

    Vesey-Goodrow-field

I go second option there. Try Roslovic with the top line first. He’s got the skills to be there.

Cool. I was wrong once before too.

Let go of Kakko. It's not going to happen here. It's going to take a first to get Vatrano in any capacity. Is Kakko going to net a 1st in trade? The answer is no.

So, if you wouldn't trade Miller for Zegras, and the equivalent of a 1st rounder for a retained Vatrano.... What exactly are you willing to trade?

Personally, I think Zegras has a lot of maturing to do. I’m definitely not trading for him gearing up for a playoff run. Also, I’m not a believer in subtracting “Key” pieces from a roster at this stage of the season.  I’m extremely hesitant to give up on Miller but definitely not now.

i also don’t love Vatrano all that much but if we have to trade a high pick for him so be it. I feel like he’s the old Dubinsky. Putting up points only because there’s no better options like @Dunnymentioned earlier.

Probably because they don't have a GM right now, they don't have a lot of assets to move (They are on record multiple times saying they're not moving Jenner and he doesn't want to move).

Whatever business they need to do can be done at the draft.

But at the very least, grab some more draft capital with all the extra cap space they have, no?  Just seems like bad business. Also feels like it’s time for JD to retire.

Do you think Drury may be as popular with JD as he is with Gorton?

I think in those positions you have to our bad personal feelings aside.  Maybe if they had two very similar offers they’d choose the GM they don’t have issues with but if Drury offers a deal that benefits Columbus, I’m sure they take it.

  6. Columbus has been extremely quiet so far and I don’t really get it. Jenner would fetch a great return. Roslovic is easily moveable for trade assets. Even Merzlikins could be moved if they ate half his contract. On top of that they have over $18 mil in cap space. Why haven’t they been the third team in any of these retention deals?

Drury, get Roslovic and add in Olivier for depth for Jones, Berard, and a 3rd.

They have plenty of 3rd line caliber RWs. Getting rid of one isn't a problem. Need a top line-ish RW. That's the disconnect.

Much like how they could deal the 30 point offensive D man that plays on the 2nd pair, because the guy on the 3rd pair can step in his place and it wouldn't be a big drop off. Wouldn't kill them to push the current 7th D to the 6th or just trade for a 6th.

    Miller & Kakko

    For

    Vatrano (1/2 retained) & Zegras.

Zegras to the RW in the near future where he will wind up anyway.

I think Drury would get fired instantaneously for that trade. In fact I kinda want to fire you from this board for suggesting it.

Jason Zucker with 50% retention and it won't cost that much.  Plays a physical game, defensively responsible, chips in offensively and can play either wing.  A guy to go into the corners and win battles for Mika and Kreider line which send Kakko to the 3rd line with Cuylee and Wennberg and the 4th line is Brodz, Vesey and Goodrow.

I’m not sure why anyone wants Zucker. Outside of one year playing with Crosby, he’s done very little for the last five years. This guy would offer absolutely no help.

That's the crappy part. You're gunna sit Jonny Brodz and that's dumb. Making him the 4th line center is dumb. I just dislike this altogether. Our third line gelled with Kakko and the fourth had chutzpah with the two towers. We needed a RW and got a meh center to F up team chemistry.

Goodrow caused this. He’s been that uninspiring on both ends.
