I was kind of surprised we let Smith walk, especially after what he did against Wilson.  

Right Now, the Caps look flat (outside of that first line), I don't think they have the legs to keep up with this Panthers team going into the third.

Tampa still has a lot of talent, but it just doesn't feel like the same team that won back-to-back cups. That third line that won them the cup, I think two-thirds of whom left (maybe all) (Goodrow to NY, Coleman to CGY, Gourde to SEA) and the defense just doesn't have the speed to keep up with Toronto.

The Eichel trade burned them. No reason to make it when they did. Alex Tuch alone would have done more for them than Eichel. Given they are just on the outside, Tuch/Krebs could have been the difference.

 

But it could pay off next year when Eichel will be ready to go from day 1, and cobwebs shaken off.

And because of Eichel's contract (and many others, the cost of going all-in), there will be contracts and coaches falling to the sword.

BTW, thank you for Gallant and Reaves (team has not been the same), and hopefully we can take one of Smith or Marchessault off your hands (depending on our cap)

They didn't make the playoffs, so these call-ups make a lot of sense. Especially Kinkaid lol (good goalie depth, but can be a headcase, just ask Jersey).

Not to mention you're going up against Crosby and Malkin (albeit in their 30s) that can score in the playoffs. On the other hand, the Rangers just have better down-line scoring and goal-tending, I can see this series going six, maybe seven. 

Generations like mine never saw the great play and grace Guy showed every night, that goal against Boston in Game 7 of the 1979 Semi-Finals showed how clutch he was as well. Rest in peace, Guy, with all the greats of hockey past.
