I really do think that the pressure the Canes were under to win was going to naturally tamp down shenanigans. That and the need for fresh legs (that Lav trusted) made this as good a time as any. I could see him coming back early in a FLA series (should NYR make it there) and continue to provide usefulness, but we needed different tools tonight.

He's put up 2 game-winning goals in the 1st round and 4 points in the first two games against one of the top teams in the league. The thing is that it's not actually the regular season anymore. It's the Playoffs and tougher to find time and space to do the things that Panarin does. Is it a far-fetched idea that a team would gameplan their defense around their opponent's leading scorer - who might be the 4th leading point producer in the NHL? 7p in 6 games so far, not otherworldly, but nothing to sneeze at either.

The defensive attention he is siphoning away from Laf and Trocheck leaves them room to operate. And operate they did.
