Phil
So the Devils, they improved up front with the acquisition of Andreas Johnsson, on defense with the acquisition of Ryan Murray, and in goal with the free-agent signing of Corey Crawford. More than a decent week for general manager Tom Fitzgerald. see also Devils trade for Maple Leafs winger in latest offseason move Who are the guys who will play for the Rangers for cut-rate prices the way Jason Spezza and Joe Thornton are playing for the Maple Leafs? https://nypost.com/2020/10/17/slap-shots-minor-leaguers-hit-hard-rangers-lafreniere-thoughts/
BlairBettsBlocksEverything
i mean who is left that fits that possible description? Carl Soderberg? Brassard for a return? Hoffman is still a FA but he's not gonna settle for THAT cheap of a contract
Drew a Penalty
Maybe they touch base with Haula. Injuries and a trend downward probably mean you can get him on a show-me type deal.
ThirtyONE
You pay garbage you get garbage. Yes, a vet would have been nice. But at this point they're not just gonna sign someone for pennies just to say they did. There's no one out there to sign that I know of. Different kind of player but I'm still holding out hope for Matt Martin.
Dunny
They'll almost certainly never get a deal like Toronto gets, for multiple reasons, not the least of which is that they're really aren't many needle moving local products that can come home to retire. Phil
No, but the current economic landscape does suggest that players can be had at pennies on the dollar. Look at the volume of guys still waiting for deals well after free agency opened. It's musical chairs. What's more important — that you have the seat you want, at your price, or that you have a seat at all?
josh
Someone like Toews in 3 or 4 seasons... when it matters more.
Flynn
1. Home Town discount.. Closing out the career at "home" I'm sure has value to many. 2. Playing for a Cup.. Toronto may be flawed, but they are closer to contending today than the Rangers. Larry must be bored as hell. Perhaps we can get Joey Mullen to sign a one year deal

ThirtyONE
How about Kovalchuk? When you sign old, bad players you're hoping for leadership. That is not Kovalchuk.
The Dude
When you sign old, bad players you're hoping for leadership. That is not Kovalchuk. He played pretty good when he went to Montreal. Looking a bit more at the list, there's a bunch of potential bargains out there as well as reclamation projects. Reclaimation projects: Galchenyuk DuClair Vets that I'm surprised haven't been signed after decent playoffs: Brassard Perry Guys to provide a vet presence, or last go at it types: Hanzal Frolik Abdelkader Grabner Delzotto Gibbons Claesson All of these would be depth guys. 13th,14th forwards or 7th Dmen. Short leashes for any of them. They need center depth and PK specialists along with a breathing D man. Nothing to drool over, but some potential slight contributors, who are just trying to stay in the league.

BlairBettsBlocksEverything
We're gonna see a bit of a wait on these until RFA's start getting settled but I assume, once arbitration starts winding down we'll see a rush of signings for the guys that we're seeing still waiting on a deal. But what's for sure is that a lot of guys are going to have to settle for much less money than they are probably used to getting. some might look for more term and be ok with lower dollars, some might want to sign a cheap 1 year deal for a better chance at proving their worth for 2021 UFA

Wouldn't mind Grabs again on a cheap deal, and would rather have seen them go after MDZ on a cheap deal over JJ.
skjeitheday
Brooks is an awful hockey writer now. Used to be very good. I don't even make it past a couple of lines in his crap now before I move onto something else.
