Good news on Rykov people, Maybe he can contribute to some of the stability the team

needs on the back end -- look at those minutes! WTF !

Let's not forget about this bloke either. He has a year to go and is a mobile puck mover

Hope NYR bears it in mind before making any long-term backend trades.

he did well in WJC-20:

14 2 8 10 0.71

#NYR prospect Yegor Rykov established an all-time Russian leagues record last night by logging 61:19 of ice time while helping SKA-Neva (VHL) defeat Dynamo in the sixth overtime.

Excellent skating ability

Extremely active with stick

Physicality/size

Great awareness

To start, Rykov demonstrates absolute jets for legs. His skating brings Tony Deangelo to mind, with explosive strides and bursts of speed. However with delicate edge work, his skating seems to be a bit more suited for a two-way role.

The most drilled in tidbit for defensemen by coaches is to keep an active stick. Rykov did just that in the 2016 World Juniors. Every time the puck was in his own end, his stick was tying sticks, in lanes, and poking pucks to teammates.

Rykov adds a big body on the backend to replace the loss of players like Nick Holden. Holden, led the Rangers in hits while he was with the Rangers this season(although Brady Skjei will be surpassing that total likely in the next game he plays).

One of the most tantalizing traits of this young player is his awareness in the defensive zone. Rykov can be seen picking off slot passes. In the film of the 2016 World Juniors, Rykov spent much of his time tying up opponents. However, this did not stop him from keeping key passes from entering the slot. His high awareness in the defensive zone can certainly help one of the Rangers weakest areas.

The bottom line is that despite Rykov still having at least a year left in the KHL, he would fit very well in front of current teammate and future Rangers goaltender Igor Shestyorkin. Rykov has a great skillset to bring to the table. The Rangers are starting to load up on offensive defensemen and Rykov might be able to fit into more of a two-way player role to help out defensively.

The Rangers will have to see what happens with this young Russian defensemen. Rykov is already in pursuit of his second Gagarin cup with SKA St. Petersburg.
