Im not convinced either team is a playoff team even after this trade.

apart from Seider I dont think Detroit has a very good D corps and don't have the goaltending to bail out that subpar D corps

Ottawa is going to need a lot of young players to take big steps this year.

Their division MIGHT have one playoff spot up for grabs and if any non playoff team in that division is going to take a step forward I would rather put my money on Buffalo.

Underwhelming return, but expected since Ottawa’s hands were tied. DeBrincat becomes a top-2 forward in Detroit with Larkin. That’ll be an interesting team to watch next season if they can get some goaltending

Yeah… not a great return, but also not awful given the circumstances as you said.

Kubalik is a good player, should slot into their top-6 nicely, and hes only 28 I believe.

Only 1 more year on his deal though, but he’s very cheap.

If he does ok there this year, but doesn’t want to stay, he can be flipped at the deadline. Could possibly bring another 1st in a deal like that, depending upon what kind of season he has.

Is the conditional pick the lower of the 2?

Detroit is definitely tracking for an amped up Seattle model with a score-by-committee approach with the added benefit of having Larkin and DeBrincat, both of who have the potential to be better than any roster player on Seattle.

The D is trending "up" slightly with the additions of Holl and Gostisbehere, and another season of experience for Seider.

Their goaltending may actually improve as the D improves, though outside of Husso's .919 sv% season he's been in the .890s.

Raymond bounces back too IMO after his sophomore slump last season.

They’re up and coming and there’s more good young talent in the pipeline and on the way. But there’s still big holes and I don’t see them as being better than at least 8-10 teams in the East.

The market completely dried up on them, is the problem. It was effectively down to the Red Wings, who we knew wanted him, and the Islanders, who we were only guessing on. Factor in the reports that he wanted to go somewhere "closer to home," and it was basically just the Red Wings.
