phillyb
Brady Skjei straight up I feel like that would be such a bad deal for TOR...LET'S DO IT!
Phil
Brady Skjei straight up Two years ago, maybe. Now, you'd have to get really fancy just to strike a deal. The Leafs can ill afford to take back contracts, let alone salary. Link: You're probably looking at a deal centered around an unsigned prospect like K'Andre Miller + picks. Or, if you're willing to eat a bunch of contracts coming back, maybe you can build a deal around more cost-controlled players like Buchneivch and DeAngelo? Dunny
I would do Miller right now. He seems like a tweener to me, I'm not sold on any offense there.
Phil
Like, if the Rangers offered Miller and their own 2021 2nd-rounder, would TOR just say yes? Their 2020 2nd is tied up in the Fox conditions with Carolina, so they can't deal that.
Dunny
I guess that depends on their mindset and whether they'll take futures. An additional 2nd may be too much for me, we're doing them a favour in some sense.
BrooksBurner
Trading Miller for Nylander would be such an old Rangers thing to do.
Dunny
Stock is high on Miller, wouldn't be a bad time to sell. Still seems like a project to me.
RJWantsTheCup
I wouldn't trade Miller for him straight up let alone throw in a 2nd. Maybe Skjei and a 2nd. No way Toronto would do just Skjei
Dunny
They can't take money or contracts on, really, so it's not even a starting point.
Phil
Toronto have their cap held together by stick tape, expired glue, and spit right now. They couldn't afford Skjei even if they wanted him.
BrooksBurner
If Toronto is losing Nylander and 7M comes off the books, why can't they take some salary back? If Hyman comes back, that's 2.25 of that used, so another 4.75 of space they could hypothetically take back. Am I missing something there?
Phil
https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/mapleleafs Good luck.
BrooksBurner
https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/mapleleafs Good luck. Right. I was looking there. Cap Hit: $94,177,537 Upper Limit: $81,500,000 Over limit by, $12,677,537, which they have $12,800,000 in LTIR to offset. Hyman coming off LTIR adds 2.25M back in which will put them over the cap. Hence, they need to clear space for it, but if they deal Nylander's 7M hit they create plenty of space for Hyman plus whatever they take back in a Nylander deal. Of course, Skjei's contract value is more than the difference, but I don't see why the Rangers couldn't offer cap relief for this year on Skjei's contract to make the numbers work. Skjei at 50% rest of year, and say Lias Andersson for William Nylander and a pick.
Dunny
Even if it did fit, why would they want Skjei? He's fuckin terrible.

Phil
This presumes they want Brady Skjei. Why are we presuming this? Because they don't already have enough defenders who can't keep the puck out of their own end/net? And Lias Andersson, why? So he can watch Nick Shore play, too?
