If anything, they'd lobby on behalf of the player to have the team buy him out. The only way I think you'd ever see a Smith-type deal terminated in this way is with an agreement that he was going overseas, rather than making him a free agent again. Well I think that's probably the only way Smith would do it, let alone the PA, but Euro contracts aren't even close. You're talking about passing on $4.3m to play for...300k or something. I don't really think there's any chance that this happens, just that it's possible. Smith has a 15-team no trade.
